Reading the Shoot-N-Scoot thread, and I got to wondering about some stuff that I have sold over the years.  Mainly some postban EBR parts such as barrels and stocks.  I wonder, how much of risk there in selling items on the EE?  I never asked the guys buying it they where felons, did not know I could even get in trouble for it.  I did not know it was up to the seller to be responsible for this.  I have not ever sold any lowers or actual firarms, just misc. parts.

Any thoughts on this?  I don’t want to debate the whole S-N-S debate leave that in the other thread.  I am concerned about my risk in dealings on the EE.

Thanks,
Echap

I suppose just keep an eye out for where someone is from. Don't sell flash hider/suppressors or collapsible stocks (IIRC) to people in CA for example.

Actually, that's a non-issue: the restricted part, technically, is the receiver, as in no new assault weapons.  Magazines can be a gray area, as CA doesn't allow new ones in state.  However, that's a state law.  Other parts can be for a legal, registered owner adding to his/her/its existing rifle.  Again, state law anyway.  Of course, if you see CHP at your door in MS, for example, .......(?)

Ponyboy, RJ, thanks for the clarification.

I have a M1a muzzle brake for sale and once received an email from someone in CA regarding whether it was CA-legal. IIRC it is but I just want to ensure we're all covered legally.

I thought the CHP only patrolled in New Orleans..

the goverment doesnt consider barrels, mags, and most parts to be "guns" therefor there are no restrictions on possesion on these items, HOWEVER the receiver and or "Machingun" kits/parts are considered firearms/restricted items,

mostly you are free and safe no matter what unless you are selling a receiver!

Thanks for the vote of support.

I GOT AN EMAIL FROM SOMEONE IN YOUR STATE about a part I was selling, was it "CA legal?"

I was forced to balance "not wanting either of us to be doing anything illegal" with "not caring at all about most gun laws in other states" (my own state's laws and CCW reciprocity laws are plenty to remember, thanks) so I erred on the side of caution. In fact I floated a post here on Arfcom about it.

I never heard back from the guy but I don't think I deserve a "" for what I did and what I said here.

They're touchy about the subject of their socialist overlords.

Actually, I had not even thought of that - just pulled a state out of the air as I didn't know where the gentleman lived. Yours would have been better.  The extended ellipsis was in place of potential CoC violations.
