Found out I made the advancement list for E5 this morning. Pin on Gunners Mate Second Class on April 1st. I spent my Army time as an E4 and never desired to be an E5 in that mess. (US Army Europe - I need not say more). I've been on a list for 8 months now waiting in the Coast Guard. I made Specialist in the Army in 2001 and lateralled over to the USCG in Feb of 2003.

Good deal Smiddy.

Will you graduate to a real boat now, or do you still have to play with the toy boats in the bathtub?

My dad was in the Navy and I was in the Army.  He always used to say that our (the Army's) stripes were "upside-down"

RIP Dad

I try to stay away from REAL boats - they scare me. I only shoot guns. And sometimes my guns blow up from subpar ammunition.......

Fighting terrorist cell boats? My history teacher last semester is a Division Commander in the USCG,  He's stopped a few Terrorist Cell boats.

Nice little pay raise, congrats. I made E-5 (ET2) in 2001 and I'm still there, not enough seatime to make E-6.

So when are you going to join the military?

My son sews his rocker on in August also.  Almost didn't take the test, made the TIG and TIS requirements only by a week or two, and based on past cycles didn't think they would go for too many in his field.  He figured he didn't do too well on the test, a lot of B-52 questions and he works on F-16s.

I can sure remember the days in the Navy when some rates didn't make any E-7s or up for years at a time.
