Chavez Again Talks of a U.S. Invasion

By IAN JAMES
Associated Press Writer

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez warned that if U.S. troops were to invade any Latin American country, "revolutionaries" from across the region would join forces to battle the Americans.

Chavez's remark in a speech Monday night confirmed what many in Venezuela have long presumed: that his government would go to the aid of a close ally like Cuba in the hypothetical scenario of the U.S. sending troops.

Although U.S. officials often dismiss his claims as outlandish, Chavez insists his country must be on guard to face any potential U.S. military attack. Washington also has said repeatedly it has no plans to attack Cuba.

The Venezuelan leader said the U.S. "should know that if it wants or someday decides ... to invade any of our countries - be it Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, today, tomorrow or the next day - we would be there gathering together the revolutionaries to do battle with weapons in hand against U.S. imperialism."

I can't think of a good reason to invade Venezuela. Chavez is simply looking for ways to justify his militarizing the southern hemisphere.

In the US, the subject never seems to come up, but he keeps going on about it. I'm guessing he wants a fight, myself.

About the only thing we COULD accomplish would be to engage his "revolutionaries" in battle and grind them to hamburger.

mostly because we would all be left defenseless. that would be a perfect scenario in which civillians [along the souther borders] bearing their arms would be necessary; against invading "revoultionaries" from a group of southern countries. unfortunately, the government would pass some bs legislation "to help keep weapons of terror out of the hands of these revolutionaries", and we would all end up being forced to turn our shit in.

I believe that everything you need to understand about international politics you learned on the playground during recess.

Chavez is a little punk 3rd grader who likes to taught the 6th graders to get attention.  He knows they will not beat up a little kid.  But he tells his friends they are scared cause he's so tough.

Cindy Shennan. Another attention whore. They were made for each other. I hope she moves down there. She can live high on the hog, wear designer clothes and shed crocodile tears for all the poor people.

Her books might even sell down there.

Those countries will implode one way or another, I was there about 12 years ago when F-16's were strafing the presidential palace in an aborted coup, it was surreal. these guys run their mouth and the price of petroleum keeps creeping up. It's all business.

Yup, and Chavez was on the side that failed to pull off the coup.  Go figure.

Yes, Venezuela is imploding.  It started back in the 1970's, and the rate of implosion has been steadily increasing ever since.

LOL.  It's probably issued.  Even if it isn't, I don't think it costs more than $0.50/bottle.

I don't know about how good the beer is, but the Malta Polar and Malta Regional were pretty good when I was there.

Ironically, Ikor is absolutely correct.  At least Chavez is more up front about his communistic ideals.
