I've got some Irish in me, but it goes waaaaaaaay back.

I've got a little more Highland Scot (Clan MacDonald) in me than Irish, someone from Scotland came over to the US about 4-5 Generations ago on my mom's side.  Apparently due to the historic natural hatred for the English the Highland Scots and the Irish get along better than many Highlanders and Lowlanders... (If my research for my sociology project is correct). My first name is also Gaelic, Ian.

I may have more Irish/Scottish/etc in me, but nobody can get my dad's mom to give up her nationalities.  So I guess I'm also 25% Heinz 57 as she puts it...

So, Happy (belated) St. Patrick's Day from a Scotsman to all you Irishmen out there.

Sean Patrick here
St Patricks day is my wedding anniversary as well
All of my Grandparents came off of the boat! My Grandmother on my Fathers side used to bust my grandfathers balls all of the time, and tell everyone he was born in the States She was such a animated jokester....Her nickname was "Chicken"...Very funny lady!
County Mayo is where most of the family is from! My folks just visited a few months ago, and stayed in the farmhouse my Grandmother grew up in!

Want a truly good book about the Irish?  Read, "How The Irish Saved Civilization".  It has a gaudy, almost corny, title but you really shoudl read it.  It's a quick read and really good and you'll learn a LOT about a lot of things in addition to Irish history.

No one is truly American.  Even the "native Americans" are not truly native, they came into north America via a land bridge from Asia.  In that sense, we are all African, all of us.

Heck, I was born in Panama then moved to Germany.  I was 8 years old before I lived in "the States".  My mother was 100% Irish.  My father English and Swedish.  I am an American.  So are you.
