Last week my order of 1680rds of M855 factory sealed ammo came in-

Friday my C.M.P. H&R Garand showed up, and today the 768rds on clips arrived-

The delivery drivers are starting to look at me funny...but they are always VERY polite!

The M885 came from www.ammoman.com

Sorry, I didn't clarify that.

www.ammoman.com says he is about to run out. In his world, I don't know if that means he only has a few crates or a few pallets left, but I'm thinking of getting another crate.

I know the "Training Purpose" loose stuff is fairly easy to come by. How scarce is sealed front-line M855? Anyone see this for sale anywhere else?

I recently bought a fire-proof safe for my ammo and guns, but now I've got too much ammo to fit in the safe!

What a wonderful problem.

The CMP lists the headstamps as between 1972 and 1980.

From this pic, it looks like 1972.

Do you think that Greek brass would be a good reloading candidate?

It's in clips; it goes into magazines.

I think its cool that we're actually allowed to say clips, in this case.  Like Old Painless once said,
"Clips, clips, clips."

If you're asking about the M855, the last 2 digits of the lot# are 72. The same as the Garand stuff. Wow, I didn't think it was that old.

Is that correct? Are the last two digits of the lot# the year of manufacture? If so, what kind of life expectancy does this ammo have? Both cans had an LC wire seal, and look to have never been opened, until last week.

Thanks!

You should have a year stamp on the base of one of the rounds.

    IE   04 or 05

09/02 on the bandoleer and 02 on the base.

Thanks!

Correct Grade. Wood and metal is in better condition than I was expecting. Still coated with cosmoline.

Boy, that's nice. These truly are the good old days for Garands. I've heard that a heat gun gives excellent results on cosmo removal; what methods will you be using?
