What is the purpose of the two-tone finish on old Colt pistol mags, like original 1911 mags, etc.
The mag is usually blued from the bottom up to a little above halfway, then it's greyish. What was the reason for this. Also seen it on old 1903 pocket pistol mags.

ok, do you know the purpose of heat treating the top half only?
