My buddy and I went to the casino last night and you notice how messed up the morality and reality is in there.

Money really has no meaning. Its just plastic and people are betting chips that could have paid their rent and bought food.

You can tell people to go fuck off and die and they say thank you sir would you like to have a free dinner?

Food, all you can eat and drink for free.

Women run around in skimpy clothes and dont mind when you stare at them. In fact the skimpier the outfit the more tokes the waitresses acquire.

There was a STAR TREK episode where an astronaut was trapped in a casino for the rest of his life. He wanted to die after a while.

I remember that episode, the ETs took a crappy book and brought it to life

I'd rather be in a good casino than a titty bar!

I don't really gamble, but for some strange reason I like to wander around casinos and watch people and look at things.

They don't build/run those places with money they LOST.

Remember that and you'll be fine.

No kidding. They can give you lobster and prime rib for $5.99 and huge beautiful rooms for free. You know people are handing them money hand and fist.

I saw a dude bet $5000 per hand and he was playing 2 hands. Just damn.

The whole point of a Casino is to set up an artificial environment (kind of like a bar) where you can behave in ways you cannot in the Real World.

There is a weird part of me that just appreciates a good crapper.

It used to be the case the LV was a great place to vacation if you didn't gamble because everything else was so cheap. Buffets, rooms, entertainment was so cheap because it was supplemented by gambling profit.

I haven't been there in a long while, but I hear its not that way anymore. too bad.

They were into the FAMILY and complete service thing for a while and realized more people came but they made less money. The new concept of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas then came out and they are trying to go back to some of the older ways.

Kids and moms dont gamble and are a strain on the hotels resources.

Las Vegas..."what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"

Atlantic City..."Las Vegas for ugly people."

With today's evolving Pimp/Whore culture I expect the popularity of Vegas to be stronger than ever before.

Duty. Country. Family. Where does Vegas fit in with those antiquated values?

I am not a professional gambler, however, I have never left a casino without leaving with less than $200 of the casinos money and usually it is more. Color me lucky.

I have an odd method of gambling... I say odd because everyone I have told my method looks at me funny

I walk into the casino loaded with money in my wallet, which is in my back pocket. My front pocket however, only has $20 in it. I play that $20 in my front pocket on machines/poker whatever. Two things can happen. I never put more than $20 into a machine... EVER.

1. If I lose all $20, I cut my losses, have a soda, watch the live entertainment and leave.
2. If I win back my $20, my $20 goes into my wallet, my winnings are now my playing money to have fun with.

I've never walked out of a casino and lost more than $20 using my method, and for the most part, I walk out of my casino every time with more than $300 in winnings. But I hardly go to the casino to begin with.

I don't get it.

Why do you need the big wad of cash in your wallet if you don't use it?

There was a show on TV recently about casino cheaters. While I doubt the morality behind organized gambling and casinos to begin with, it's set up so that any one who dares to come up with an angle or cheat will be sent to prison. Kind of a twisted set of values, or can no one else see the irony of it all?

There are a few small-time casinos near here now, with another to go up soon. People flock there for a chance to feel as if they're a part of the big-time, and for an easy chance at the big bucks. The tribes are laughing all the way to the bank. I guess it's their chance to get back at those who have taken everything from them in the past.

The mere presence of the casino in the Falls has driven the prices of everything sky-high in that area. Parking near the Falls is at a premium, some of it converted to park-and-ride for the casino. Traffic patterns have been disrupted. People are standing in the middle of the street telling you where to turn for casino parking. So much for tourism. Not EVERYONE wants to go to the casino. Yet, it is seen as a goldmine, to the detriment of everything else.

Ok, so why is gambling considered anti-family and immoral?

I have been a gambler for a long time, and I've never missed a child support payment, my daughter has a nice truck, my son got a brand new vehicle for graduation and I don't cheat on taxes etc.

Right now, we aren't gambling because my bride is out of work. Once she gets her job, we'll probably head to Northern La, and set up a Las Vegas trip in the summer. We missed the SHOT SHOW because of her being out of work.

I guess I don't get it.

In Houston, you can go to boobie bars everywhere, and I'm sure a hooker can be had relatively easily, so, why do people equate Vegas with immorality?

The mob is long gone from Vegas, and all gambling is scrutinized.

I have played enough I don't pay for meals or hotel rooms when I go, so the gambling and a few other expenses are all we pay when we go. Meals at our hotel are free.

I have gone to Vegas with 2000.00 and come back with more, and all meals and hotel were comped.

I've also spent 3000 in three days there and still had a great time.

It's a vacation, It's escapism....

I think it has to do more with the chronic out of control gamblers that lose so much money they dont pay their bills and do not meet their responsibilities.

I like to gamble on small scale. In fact there were these 3 docs that learned to count cards and they would go together and work as a team. One guy would be the main breadwinner on the table the rest would help him win. They would split the pot at the end.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to play on a card counting team. It was very surreal.

One time, I had $200 on one hand, and lost, and some tourist woman stared at me with wide eyes and said, "You just lost two hundred dollars." It's difficult to explain to her, with casino staff hanging around, that I had a 2% advantage on that hand and expected to net four bucks. I shoved out $300 for the next one, since the count had gone up.

On the one hand, I had to relearn how to manage my money after dragging around way too much cash for way too long. On the other, it paid for quite a bit of the downpayment on my house.

Unfortunately, the casinos have really ruined the whole professional gambling thing. The tracking software and surveillance technology makes it pretty much impossible to get away with beating the casino any more. Pretty much everyone I've kept in contact with from the good old days is only playing poker any more.

I rarely go to Casinos. Last time was about 6 years ago. It's fun. I take about $50 and play till it's gone. For most people that's how it is and it's not a problem.

But I've known a couple people who have a problem. For them it's not escapism it's an addiction. One woman I worked with went from quarter slots to dollar slots because when she hit a big jackpot it was only about $70 and she wanted $280. She'd come in to work and talk about how she lost $200 or $300 or $500 the night before. Then she'd talk about winning $500 and blowing it half of it at the casino on drinks and dinner for her friends/family then giving money to her friends/family. Her mom once won $20,000 and said that almost got her back to even. Of course she blew though half the money in a week. My coworker had a good job and could afford to do this for a while. I think she eventually wised up and stopped going.

I think next we should legalize crack and prostitution. Think of all the good we can do with the tax revenue.

I have yet to visit Vegas, maybe some day, but anyways my only Casino experience was at Mohegan Sun, its one of those "Indian" Casinos in CT.

I had gone up there to see a friend graduate from the Coast Guard Academy we were up there for about a week, one night he had a busy schedule so me and my other friends went to the casino.

I know slots are the most profitable ways to gamble but I was playing with the quarter slots for a bit and my 2nd time I won $20.

We wandered around for a bit, I threw some more money at slots, didnt get much back. I wanted to play blackjack or poker but the few tables I saw were full. That place was mostly slots, as it is the most cost effective way to seperate a sucker from thier money.

In the end I threw away $15 of my winnings on other machines, and a couple other games, and then I bought a hotdog and a drink with my remaining $5 of winnings. Atleast I didnt lose anything.

I've heard it say that when you go to a casino its best to realize that you arent paying for a chance to win, you are really paying to entertain yourself for a couple of hours or whatever. And on that token, always play the cheapest games you can, penny slots if they got, because you get more hours of entertainment for your dollar.

casinos are one of the places guaranteed to teach anyone one of gods immutable laws:

he who attempts to predict the future will be punished...

the flip side of this immutable law is:

he who prepares for the future will be rewarded...

Actually there is one game that you can win at. But, it is in the long run. It is also subject to wild swings of winning and losing. Video poker played properly on a game with the right odds. Google video poker and Bob Dancer.
