Ever get stuck with a nickname beyond your control? Or people just screw with your name? My favs:

hey "tom-tom" hehehehe snicker (you know the commercials?)
yo, Thom-ASS !
what up tommygun...
hey T-bone.
Tom...huh...is that short for Thomas? (a little piece of my soul dies everytime I hear that one)
I like to do this one when they post up our names at work for whatever reason just walk by and do a double take then say "No, no boys-theres ONE "o" in TOM...then walk away. You know Top Gun, two o's in goose....aww forget it guess its not that funny. Any way.....NEXT FOLKS: I know you all have some good ones....

Two of my friends give each other and almost every other one of their friends random nicknames about every month or so.
Of course the person has no control over these decisions, chances are did nothing in any way remotely related to the chosen name.

The most recent one given to me that I remember is Quivivus....because they got drunk and watched Tombstone. The priest says it in a prayer or somethign to Doc Holiday in the end.

I have a friend names Thomas who is regularly called Toe-Moss.

The strangest one for me was from my brother when we were little. He always called me Nort.
After we grew up (subjective term) I asked him what it meant, and how he came up with it, and he said he had no idea. It just seemed to fit.

"Hone" as in sharpening a knife. Back in the day of boy scouts, we were given a "tote & chip" card that allowed us to carry a knife. I had several knives and actually spent time sharpening the knives with a stone I received from a granddad.

As an aside. most of the knives I owned at the time were gifts from relatives, including a USMC blade from a deceased family member (the knife was stored at my parent's house when I was in college, and for whatever reason that knife, and several others were lost and never found).

Similar to this knife, but my memory doesn't have the blade as being dark but more of a rusty iron type of thing.

there's a guy working on the rig that everyone calls "blade"

he somehow managed to slice his hand wide open with a razor blade...and well, people out here have a strange sense of humor.

One day my platoon SGT realized that my initials were TD, so TD turned into Touch Down. And I was not very athletic so when people asked how I got the nick name, everyone said it was because I had a touch of down syndrome

WEll, I got labelled "duck" by a former manager...who later became my best friend (and best man at my wedding)... He went from Roger.... to Roger dodger, to Duck Dodgers, to just plain "Duck".

It is not uncommon for him to answer his phone when I call by saying "Quack".

He has been labeled "Crash"...not as in Bandicoot, but as in crashing his new 1 week old explorer and wreaking it AND the boat he was towing.

Then we had another guy "Hyper"....simply cause he was.....(and still is).

Of course there was "Verb".... real name Pete, short for Peter, as a definition of Peter is one who Petes...and would be a verb as it is an action.

No Expert

My dad always called me Tomahawk. Most people still call me Tom but only a few very special people call me Tommy. I've been called every variant there is to Tom, Tommy & Thomas.
Gets a little tiresome after a while.

Not me. My friend Erik got a really funny one, "The Human Jenny", because his personality is so much like his Golden Retriever, Jenny's. Super-friendly and eager to please.

We called this one dude we played paintball with Splash after he crashed his ATV into a lake.

"zoom"

I've had the nickname so long that my sister-in-law, that I met over 60 years ago, was stumped a few weeks ago when she had to write down my name as a beneficiary for a bank account she was opening.z
