| Hey all, I just picked up a Taurus PT-111 9mm for a carry gun. It's quite the piece of machinery. Check it out here http://www.Taurususa.com/pt111.html . Put 50 rnds of no-name FMJ through it without any dificulty and 9 Federal 147 grain Hydro Shok for good measure to see how they would feed for use. I picked it up for $375.00 new at a shop in Pompano Beach and carried it out the door (this concealed permit thing is pretty cool). Wondering what any of you carry for a concealed weapon or backup and why ? |

It really depend on the occasion or what my day will be. If I have to go to places where concealed carry is not permitted like government offices and such, I like to bring along the HS2000. At $269, I can leave it in the car and not worry much if it gets stolen. For a mardi gras kind of thing, I prefer the Glock 19 with high caps. For long hikes through the woods, the Walther P99 due to its camouflage appearance. But most of the time, the first thing I grab for in my safe everyday is my Kimber Pro-CDP. Nothing beats a .45 to get your point across. |

All good replys but I was wondering what the train of thought was for your choices: 1. Caliber 2. Bullet type I was origionaly looking for something in .380 but decided on full size 9mm when I dry fired the PT-111. It is more compact and lighter than the Sig 232 (.380) and points better. I was also surprised at the accuracy when I fired it. 3. Design (semi v. wheel gun) Decided on a hammerless semi due to the ease of draw and the simplification of operation. 4. Size Small enough to conceal wearing shorts and a tshirt, large enough to provide a stable grip. 5. Safety devices Every shot is double action (hey, it aint a sniper rifle) this will make it extremely hard to have an accidental discharge. Safe for cary with a round in the chamber but no chance of discharge if dropped. It will still fire without a mag in the well (important if involved in a scuffle). 6. Condition of cary (locked and cocked, empty chamber ect.) Round in the chamber, safety on. 7. Method of cary (inside the pants holster, groin, hip, small of back, ankle, shoulder ect.). Inside of the pants, small of the back slightly to the right. And the big one, when and where do you cary ? Any time I leave the house, in the car it rides in the glove box. Around town I usually cary at night. |

Smith & Wesson model 29 six inch as primary. (I know it sounds uncomfortabel but after twenty plus years of carrying a six inch Smith N frame you get used to it.) Smith model 29 custom 1.625" dehorned snubby as back up. Each loaded with five rounds of Hydro-Shoks and one mild hand load under the hammer. (You get five big bangs and a light shot telling you it is time to reload.) Carried in one of the concealment holsters that I market, which is a double shoulder rig worn under ones shirt. Eighteen round wallet pack of Hydro-Shoks in right hip pocket for reloads. |
| Ruger P-89. Over 3000rds. Never a single jam or misfire. I can hit well with it. My smallest magazine is 15rds and I have two 30rd mags. It was my first pistol. A college graduation gift from my dad. If I am ever faced with a life threatening situation which calls for a large boat anchor I am prepared. Planerench out. |

Quoted: I get to stick my keys between my fingers and scratch my attacker. I hate living in a may-issue state, friggen Maryland. Kharn Hey, at least you live in a state with the POSSIBILITY of carry! I'm in one of the six remaining with no provision whatsoever. [:(] Mike |

I have a few carry guns. HK USP9c, SIG P228 9mm and SIG P229 357sig. I tried a SIG P239 in 9mm, but it was too small for my hands. Loads are 124gr 9mm Golden Saber +P, 127gr Winchester Ranger 9mm +P+, and 125gr Speer Gold Dot 357sig. I'm torn between the SIG and the HK. The HK allows be to carry cocked and locked, although I prefer the control configuration of thh SIG. Also, the SIG has slightly less muzzle flip. Andy |
