everyone knows about those engine additives that you can put into your engine, then dump a bucket of sand into it and it keeps running. some even say they bond with the metal to give a more smoother surface on the cylinder walls. would it work on weapons?would you try it? food for thought citizens.

the assholes selling that shit are the ones saying it.

I don't see the need for super lube in a gun.  how many "load cycles" does the typical gun see in its life?  about the same number as an  auto engine gets in 1 minute of running.

it's not the same application.

I would look for an oil that doesn't attract grit and doesn't gum up with age.  then use a tiny amount.

I too have heard a lot of the BS claims on Slick 50.

However, I have read here and there from some people that swear that 5w30 Mobil 1 is the uber gun lube to use.

I've always just used breakfree...partially because I like the smell.

No.

Different uses.

In particular, a very important quality for a gun oil is rust protection.  I doubt that’s a major concern in formulating something like Slick-50.

And even the best gun oils aren’t that expensive anyway.  So what’s the point?

That said, I’ve heard of quite a few people using Mobil-1 as a gun oil and being quite happy with it.

No.  Slick 50 is not exactly snake oil, but not too far off.  And no, Teflon doesn't "stick" or "plate" to anything other than more Teflon outside of a pressure vessel and/or a plasma cannon.

Gun oil for guns.

Oil can be "set-up" for certain jobs.
Gun oil is "set-up" for firearms.

CLP is a good general purpose firearm oil, especially for AR-15/M16 type weapons.

I doubt Slick 50 or other auto oils have the anti-rust capabilities of CLP.

Some people look for auto oils, because they are cheaper than dedicated gun oils. But most people go through so little gun oil the economics of the switch are silly.$5-10-15-20's a year in gun oil, is a lot of oil for most people.

It's no good as a engine lube, might as well use it on your gun...

I never did understand the cheap gun lube reason. I bought a quart of CLP 2 years ago and I still have plenty of it left.
Are you guys drinking it or something?

Same here. Got it on sale from Midway in a squirt bottle and still have more than half left after 2 years.

Use Eezox or Gibbs one time and you will throw all that other crap away.   Those are the lubes that were used when they mated that Great Dane and a Chihuahua.  Gotta be good!
