Colo. teen in custody after MySpace.com posting showing guns Associated Press
Associated Press DENVER — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday after postings on the popular Web site MySpace.com allegedly showed him holding handguns, authorities said. The teen was being held at a juvenile detention center facing three misdemeanor charges of juvenile possession of a handgun, said district attorney spokeswoman Pam Russell. He is due in court Feb. 27. Police searched the boy's home after receiving a tip from Evergreen High School on Feb. 10, the same day he was suspended, officials said. School spokesman Rick Kaufman said parents were calling with concerns and some kept their children home after photographs posted on the boy's profile on MySpace.com, a social networking Web site, began circulating through the community. One photo allegedly showed him lying on a floor surrounded by nine rifles with the caption, "Angel o' death on wings o' lead." "The photos were very disturbing, and while the content was not a direct threat, we just felt it was important for us to take appropriate disciplinary action," Kaufman said, adding the student could be expelled. Evergreen High School is in the same district as Columbine High School, where two teenage gunmen killed 12 students and a teacher before committing suicide in 1999. One of the gunmen had posted a threat on the Internet before the shootings. |

So he was arrested for posting a legal pic of himself, with legal guns on a legal web site, just because he lives close to Columbine

WTF?
You can own guns in CO if you're under 18 right? That's incredibly stupid. I can understand if you're underage and you post pics of stuff you shouldn't be doing like drinking, but as far as I know you can be under 18 and own a gun. |
Wow, another post was very similar to this earlier, 'cept was for some stupid kali laws, taken in a college dorm, etc. Kids and guns, can't have that!!!
I took my .22 Savage bolt action to show and tell in 3rd grade, not an eye was raised, and my parents didn't even think anything of it. Obviously, they let me. Granted, I'm 34 and that was in a somewhat smaller East Texas town, but still. WTF?!?!?! Guess the years and years of propaganda have convinced people that even associating yourself with a firearm is cause for alarm. |
Wow. Each day i wake up and am amazed at how stupid the world got when I was sleeping.
What a bunch of BS!! I cant believe that they are doing that to the kid. It sounds like he needs some counciling rather than a prison sentence. I dont see how the schools punnish some one for something that happened off of school grounds? The schools are becoming more and more over run with the Lib mentality and corupting the youth with their thinking.
Wow, thats pretty scary. I can't imagine how they'd flip out if they found my stuff. That's messed up, just because some soccer moms got scared, this kid gets fucked with. "Oh noes thats themz tec 9z!!!!!1111one!11" "Mommy Mommy I saw that kid at school who talks how he shot paper at his death range!!1!1!!!111, pweez awest him befow he kiws us awwl!"
That said he should be arrested just for using myspace! |
+1 |
And I'll bet you'll be doing your best taxman impression behind ammo cans anxiously awaiting the no-knock warrant! |
Shoot first, ask questions later. |
Questions? Nobody said there'd be a test! I just came here for the shootin'. |
OK, shoot first, loot dead SWAT guys for there weapons and ammo for the next wave? |
Maybe for ammo. We probably have better AR's than they're issued. Could use some nice NVD's, though. |
I dont have an AR Oh crap, im screwed..... But the SWAT around here has some nice toys.. |
Check out that kid's myspace, he may have one you can borrow. If not, let me know, Tyler ain't far. |

Seems to be a common thing, happened in Kali too: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=439655

Did I miss something or in your own home is not under the control of your parents?
I guess making a social example is more important than freedom or even legality in CO. |
Get with the times. Parents can't even smoke in their homes if they have kids in some places. You're really showing your age. Do you have no compassion for the young'uns? All they need is just a little bit of our rights at a time, as long as no one notices and raises a big stink. But even if they do, who cares? No one's really gonna do anything about it. |
hypothetical:
let's pretend they were totally illegal to own, etc, in CO....but who says the pics were taken in CO? what if he visited his cousin in TX, or better yet what if he went to visit his movie producer uncle in CA and posed with props? or what if they are his airsoft guns? wtf is this country coming to? there is no hope for this country if this is allowed to continue - and I smell a windfall! |
charges will be dismissed, because they can't possibly stick him with anything. there will be no media uproar, everyone except us will forget about it. |
but he can stick them with false arrest, etc |
+ eleventybillion |
still won't get any media coverage, still won't get people in an uproar. sad but true. a little bit at a time... |
Nuff Said. Pete |
OMG Lets hope that they don't find this website! Ha Ha! What the hell??!?!? Lets just not take photos anymore since there is always going to be some idiot in a position of authority that will find something illegal about it! hinking.gif
This is as sad as the Muslims complaining about a stupid cartoon. Everyday the media down here has a soccer mom on talking about her child on myspace and how she is disgusted that her daughters friends are posing in sex provocative ways. Well why don't they go after the Fucking asshats there posing with bags upon bags of pot. Or the people who post pics of gang violence. No they go after some random 16 year old for posing with a gun. OMG this country is messed up. The media has put such a bad image on myspace. Rant Over |
The only possible thing I can see here is the handgun part.
I don't know what the laws are in CO, but in NY, as stupid as it is, technically you are not allowed to HANDLE or PICK UP a handgun if you don't have a pistol permit, regardless of age, believe it or not! Maybe its something stupid like that... |
I think what gets all y'alls blood boilin is the line: A 16-year-old boy was arrested
What I mean is.. Was the kid actually "arrested" or was he contacted by the police and maybe voluntarily went "downtown" to have a talk? Newspaper writers are not legal experts and often use the wrong language to tell their stories... |
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quoted: Wow. Each day i wake up and am amazed at how stupid the world got when I was sleeping. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I find that happening more often lately and it does get a little depressing sometimes. jb |

I wonder if his picture is still up? Anyone myspace savvy enough to find it? |
We should all open up a myspace account! Plus, think of all the barely legal chicks that'll think we're cool!
I was just thinking the same thing. What if all these fat, middle aged balding guys with goatees started showing up in force with all their guns hanging out? |
These myspace stories are getting funny.
Anybody caught with a pot plant yet? |
all the local folks should each get a turn to slap the shit out of the "school spokesman" and whoever did the arresting. |
Havn`t seen a plant yet, but there are plenty of pics showing hippy kids smoking a bong though. |
You can't even handle a family member's handgun?
WTF does this have to do with school? Their policy doesn't mean shit unless he's been threatening other students or using school computers to post the pics. |
It appears that you guys have overlooked this part? The kid called himself the Angel of Death on Wings of Lead and posed w/ firearms. If the authorities had done nothing and the kid went off and shot his classmates you'd all be screaming for a lynching and talking about how this incident would hurt the pro-gun cause. The article describes his webpage as being just a bit threatening, don't you think? |

Guns don't kill people, pictures of guns do. |
Indeed: First, what law as broken? They need to define that. Second, this is the time to lawyer up and by that I mean the most viscious local government suing shyster that ever passed the bar exam. If this kid was arrested and there was no violation of the law, then he has a first class prize winning lawsuit. This lawsuit would include the cops, the school and each principle actor individually. Now, I know that the cops know this. The schools mostly feel immune to lawsuit right up until one smacks them between the eyes. Further, what is Colorado law on this matter? Where was the photo taken? There has to be more here. Did colorado ban people under 18 from handling firearms? If so, under what circumstances? Were those circumstances met? Myspace is the devil. |

Sounds like sigline material to me. |
Technically, according to the letter of the law, in NYS if you do not have a pistol permit you are not allowed to handle or shoot a pistol. Technically during the mandatory and BS (from a law point of view) gun safety course you must take to get a permit in Erie county, since you don't have a permit, they cannot let you handle a pistol. Before you get your permit, technically you cannot handle guns at a gunshop to decide what to buy. Technically I cannot bring a friend without a permit to the range and allow him to shoot my pistol. And techncially I cannot be in possesion of a pistol not on my permit, which includes having a friend with a permit at the range, and trying out one of his guns. Of course, a lot of this stuff is ignored, but technically, NYS is fucked up.... |

Boy you are sure right about that. Do you have to have a license to take a leak, too? I could not live there. |
