I live in NY and wanting to buy an AR 15 is hard. I had to register my slingshot after a six month wait and when I went to pick it up they said I can't have the wrist strap on it because it was an assult slingshot and I could only have 5 bearings in my pocket at any one time. So what is a good state to live in and why?

Florida, if you can afford the real estate.
Link Posted: 2/2/2006 3:31:30 PM EDT
NH is closer...and better
Link Posted: 2/2/2006 3:32:24 PM EDT
VA is very good to.

None.

Well compared to how its supposed to be anyway.

Indiana aint too bad.

Alaska is the best gun state. But you have to fight polar bears and fight over women all the time.

Come on down to Kaliphornya, sonny!

Alaska, Idaho, or Wyoming.

Not only do they have some of the best gun laws, but there are actually places to shoot. Lot of Southern states have good gun laws but there is almost nowhere to shoot longer than 100 or 200 yards.

Inebriation

KENTUCKY!

Open carry
Gun friendly journey laws
Can carry in glove box without a CCDW
NFA friendly
No local laws can restrict guns in any way
CCDW means ANY deadly weapon: auto knives, AOW, subguns, hand grenades...
You don't have to retreat from an attacker before using deadly force

Alaska, although Colorado isn't too bad either if you stay out of socialist enclaves like Denver and Boulder. We have CCW in CO, but you can carry whatever you want in your car without a permit. I suppose I'd have to put Vermont or Wyoming in 2nd place.

Oh, and IBTTZ: In before the Texas zealots, who will claim their state is better even though you can carry without a permit in Alaska.

Gotta throw my vote in for UTAH! Everyone entitled a CCW, no local bans on anything, LOTS of scenic country to shoot in and around and you can have as many wives as you want!

So True.

Over here you can have all the Machine Guns that you can afford.

Just stay away from West Jersey, AKA Philadelphia.

PA is good.

Oklahoma is pretty good...

"Shall Issue" CCW

NFA friendly.

No AWB.

"Make My Day" Castle Doctrine self defense laws..

+1 on UTAH... I don't understand why you would want MANY wifes, I can't handle the ONE I have now!!!

The only thing I can think of that might be construed as gun control in Louisiana is a 3 shell limit when shotgun hunting. All class III allowed and no GC that is not federal. That said stay in the north end of the state.

5 wives X 7.50 an hour at Walmart is how I understand it works. Truth be known, I think having a mistress is a better idea. I still can't can't figure why ole' Brother Brigham Youg didn't do it that way in the good old days.

Hopefully Texas is too. I might be moving there soon.

nope, it just cant be within reach and loaded. so if its loaded it has to be in the back. Oregon is pretty gun friendly, no AWB or waiting times or registration. NFA is welcome too
Link Posted: 2/2/2006 5:52:17 PM EDT
As far as only guns are concerned... Vermont. No gun laws to speak of, period (besides federal laws which apply everywhere anyway). Of course, the lack of gun laws is probably the ONLY good thing about Vermont. Lots of tree-hugging hippies, even more cows, nothing much to do, etc.

I was in NY moved to FL. Schools suck and Real Estate is too high, and it is damn FLAT. But the gun laws are pretty good.

I'm moving to KY this year though. Wife wants to be a little closer to family in NY, and I want someplace even more gun friendly than FL, east of the mississippi. Louisville here I come!!!

Open Carry is a big draw and they basically lack any laws besides federal ones.

Of the four states I frequent, (Kentucky, Florida, Illinois, and Colorado), here is my list

1. Kentucky (Yes, it's that friendly)
2. Florida (not enough open space, but the public shooting ranges they do have are awesome)
3. Colorado (not enough flat land for long range shooting, unless you like to shoot across valleys and spend 30 minutes hiking to your targets)
4. Illinois (Jackboots and goose stepping)

Seriously didn't Montana recently pass legislation that put them over the top in pro gun legislation?

Not to detract from Oregon as we are the only state on the West Coast with Class III capabilities.
Link Posted: 2/3/2006 6:34:20 AM EDT

if you listen to the brady's and such, you'll think you have to seak out a gun-friendly area. the truth of the matter is that if you carve off the mid-atlantic states, the lowly half of NE, and california, almost all of what's left is gun country.

if you don't want to go too far, VT, NH, and ME aren't bad, though our taxes up here are going through the roof...
