Only if it is a verifiably random survey.  Calling 1000 people in downtown Orlando would not qualify, even if you picked them at random from the phone book.

If it is a verifiably random survey, it should be reasonably close to reality.  Repeat surveys with verifiably random survey samples would lend validity to the original survey.

I see many people here didn't take statistics... 1000 is enough of a sample size in a correctly conducted survey.

The main point here would be to see if this was indeed a well conducted survey, or a online poll at wehateguns.org

You think that's bullshit?  The people of San Fransisco voted away their civil rights recently.  Democracy does not work when most of the population is stupid.

Face it, things are changing/have changed.  It's just taking a while for people to realize it.  Hopefully it wont be too late when they do.
