I had no idea jackrabbits could scream like that.  It was kinda sad.  However, it was not sad enough to deter me from shooting others.  Also, the .223 round has no problem penetrating the thick hide of rabbits and causing quick death.

ETA    We were around some farms were the rabbits are considered pests....so they were all justified shootings.

That sound will bring coyotes from miles away.

We had a caller that would play it on a loop at random intervals. The `yotes would walk straight into a spotlight while hearing it.

The FBI used the tapes of dying rabbits screaming during the Waco siege.
Don't know what the purpose was...

Not always, quite frequently animals will act as if the don’t know that anything is wrong.

Critters can make sounds that are hair raising when they're frightened or anguished about dying.  I've heard almost a human cry from a brown squirrel I shot and another time, I heard a dog get bagged by a mountain lion (and no, I couldn't go to the dog's rescue as it was somewhere in the woods).

I don't know what it sounds like because I heard a recording.  I know what it sounds like because I saw it happen a few feet away.

I was in the pits at Camp Perry during the 2004 National Trophy Matches, on the very low end of Viale range, right near the base fence.  A hawk swooped down into the grass and we saw a bunch of thrashing around in the grass.  Took off my earplugs to see if I could figure out what was going on, and there it went.

Later during a break in the shooting, a couple of us sneaked over and saw the hawk still munching on (now dead) bunny.

Last time I shot a rabbit with the .223 I had about 3 big chunks of meat. It just exploded said bunny. Was a bit comical actually to see little peices of bunny raining down.

Yup...a predator (Likely a fox...) got one the other night just across our pond.  Durn thing screamed and screamed and sputtered out finally.  Really weird sound all right.

Have shot a couple of them with a .410 and they screamed.  Would have loved to tape it when they did it.  It is some gruesome shit.  What good are those jackrabbits other than a challenging hunt and predator vittles?

Shot alot of jackrabbits in my life.  Started with a 10/22 to a 9mm pistol to a 12 gauge and finally quit hunting them after the 7mm mag.  I used to have a video of me getting a nice decapitation shot with the 7mm mag, it sent the head like 20 feet in the air, spinning.

When I was a kid I ordered a record of screaming rabbits via "Field and Stream."  Nasty sound.
