I had no idea jackrabbits could scream like that. It was kinda sad. However, it was not sad enough to deter me from shooting others. Also, the .223 round has no problem penetrating the thick hide of rabbits and causing quick death.
ETA We were around some farms were the rabbits are considered pests....so they were all justified shootings. |

I personally use a 300 win mag or rabbits.
I don't wan't them getting away. |
That sound will bring coyotes from miles away.
We had a caller that would play it on a loop at random intervals. The `yotes would walk straight into a spotlight while hearing it. |
Take THAT you waskly wabbit! Bit on the expensive side though... |
Anything or anybody shot, if still alive "would scream like a girl"....
7mm Rem will do nice work also! I read your post and broke out laughing...funny. |
The FBI used the tapes of dying rabbits screaming during the Waco siege.
Don't know what the purpose was... |
You should hear a cottontail being disemboweled alive by a hawk.........
I'm begining to wonder where people find this audio?? |

Not always, quite frequently animals will act as if the don’t know that anything is wrong. |

Critters can make sounds that are hair raising when they're frightened or anguished about dying. I've heard almost a human cry from a brown squirrel I shot and another time, I heard a dog get bagged by a mountain lion (and no, I couldn't go to the dog's rescue as it was somewhere in the woods).

www.gofoxpro.com/main.htm It is in the predator sounds.

I don't know what it sounds like because I heard a recording. I know what it sounds like because I saw it happen a few feet away. I was in the pits at Camp Perry during the 2004 National Trophy Matches, on the very low end of Viale range, right near the base fence. A hawk swooped down into the grass and we saw a bunch of thrashing around in the grass. Took off my earplugs to see if I could figure out what was going on, and there it went. Later during a break in the shooting, a couple of us sneaked over and saw the hawk still munching on (now dead) bunny. |

There really scream when you catch them in a snare. But it brings in the predators so its a happy scream, for me.
Another vote for 7mm Mag It also works well for grouse..... |

Last time I shot a rabbit with the .223 I had about 3 big chunks of meat. It just exploded said bunny. Was a bit comical actually to see little peices of bunny raining down.
My dog walked up to my puter and tilted her head sideways when I played that. |
I've killed a whole bunch of jackrabbits with .22s and never had one scream
That's cold man... |

Ahh, the sound of a rabbit screaming with a big fat female sonoran harris hawk on it. |
Just step on the neck for a few and the airway closes and no more screaming.....
"Do the rabbits still scream, ModernDayIsraelite?" -Hannibal |

a gun owning PETA member, how cute |
I've shot some that just keep running for a little while even though they've been gut shot, hit em and break a bone though and they will scream. |

FWIW I'm no PETA people , former VietNam Era Marine in fact ..... I do not understand killing for fun ...... killing just to kill ....?

Yup...a predator (Likely a fox...) got one the other night just across our pond. Durn thing screamed and screamed and sputtered out finally. Really weird sound all right.

Have shot a couple of them with a .410 and they screamed. Would have loved to tape it when they did it. It is some gruesome shit. What good are those jackrabbits other than a challenging hunt and predator vittles?

+1 Rocklock. Saw a guy get gutshot about 20 years back. Can still remember the screams vividly. There are a lot of sick people out there......................and they are not all out there. |

Shot alot of jackrabbits in my life. Started with a 10/22 to a 9mm pistol to a 12 gauge and finally quit hunting them after the 7mm mag. I used to have a video of me getting a nice decapitation shot with the 7mm mag, it sent the head like 20 feet in the air, spinning.
WOW... that is one vicious scream.
I wouldn't be able to put up with that very long... definately would have to snuff the lil guy. - BG |
When I was a kid I ordered a record of screaming rabbits via "Field and Stream." Nasty sound.
