Anyone know how to find out when pictures on Google Earth were taken?

Well, I know for a fact that the picture of Nuevo Laredo is at least 24 months old, as the building I worked in does not appear in the pictures. Not even the initial groundwork.

Oh, and it says (c) 2006.

The images are not older than 3 years, since I can recognize the arrangement of my old backyard...

That is a long time ago!

Take a look at Bagdad...even though it says 2006, it looks pre-OIF...

The picture of my house is 5-6 years old.  I added backyard landscaping around mid-2001.  It's not there.

The pictures of LSA Anaconda by Balad are after August 2003, the hanger I was living in has changed (they added a fence around the area, etc)

depends on location; the ages vary for different parts.

Yep. Picture of us outside our place with our old car had to be before 2002

I don't think LSA Coyote in Kuwait, or LSA Viper in Iraq are even in the pictures. I know thy didn't disappear that fast.

At least a couple years old.  My Dad's house is still under construction in the sat. photo.

It depends entirely on which area you're looking at.

Some areas have been imaged more recently, and some have not. AFAIK there's no way to tell through Google Earth.

Do you really think they are going to provide updated Bagdad pics? Some asshole could then have a nice map to place their morter tube in just the right spot.

The image of my house is ~2yrs old. It shows our new backyard landscaping, but does not show the guest house we added later, so it places it in a narrow window of time.

What like some asshole over there doesn't already know the spot to drop a round?

I'd bet their intel is better than ours on that subject...

Overhead view and coordinates are invaluable. I'm sure somebody at Air Force SATCOM dropped a note with Google encouraging them to be....less than enthusiastic..... about updating in Iraq.

May 2004 to be specific. I found my platoon in the picture mounting our tanks.

Mosul, I think, might be a bit older a picture. Anyone know when FOB Marez was built? It's not on GE at all that I can see.

Yes, actually. For whatever reason, the various social events such as the 'Company Grade Officer's Pool Party' where on at such hours that those of us peons in the line units couldn't attend. We had to work.
