Actually, the Church came very late to any involvement in the institution of marriage, other than instructing its members in how God expected them to behave once they entered into the relationship. People jumped over brooms, drank from a common cup, broke a barley cake, or whatever the local custom was for several hundred years before the Christian Church started "performing" weddings. While a priest or elder might participate in or bless the ceremony, it was a civil office. |
Really? No instructon about mariage before the "Church" was formed? Interesting. I need to do more research.
Plenty of instruction, but the institution antedates the Church by millenia. Think about: Paul is not (for the most part) writing to people who had church weddings. |

TORTURE! They care about some poor jihadist being talked to meanly or being deprived of 12 hours sleep or whatever else they have dumbed torture down to today.... |
Marriage predates christianity but not organized religion. The basis of marriage and marriage rights is still religious. For those who say attitudes aren't going to change so forget it; That was said about slavery and lynching blacks. We as a society decided to stand up and protect a relatively defenseless minority. When are we, as a society, going to stand up and defend an utterly defenseless minority? |
I am a agnostic almost atheist but i find abortion morally wrong However i do not think it should be the #1 issue in this country and all the attetion lavished on it takes away from many other more pressing issues
Don't like a abortion ? Don't have one if there is a god he will kick your ass when you get to go see him it is not up to me or any of you to judge |
Sorry, but . Marriage in many, many civilizations has been a purely contractual matter. |
No shit. You think society is going to stand for selective and voluntary prebirth killing of known gays? Nope! |
So what may one judge? May I judge Hitler? Mao? Lenin? Pol Pot? Each did what he thought best, according to his personal lights. Your reach exceeds your reason. |
Don't Christians feel a moral obligation to help people understand that it's not fun to have your ass kicked by God. I know for sure that i would not want to deal with that. Isn't that the reason they want people to understand that an unborn child is exactly that........

chuck the fuck is going to ramble about guns when he questions the SC nominee
Yep that pretty well covers it, plus they desperately want to turn us into criminals, and destroy the ideals that our nation was founded upon. If they ever get a legitimate agenda they could be a real threat. |
The only Supreme Court nominee that the Dems would approve of from GWB would be one that performs a partial birth abortion in the hearing chambers in front of the comittee while whistling the themesong to "BrokeBack Mountain"

+1... - georgestrings |

Were you educated in the prison system? |
No, all they care about is power. Supporting homosexuals and abortion is simply a trade off to increase their power.
I don't see how you can claim it is anything other than a religious view. In fact your last comment - basically stating that anybody you disagrees with is "not right in the head" - proves that fact rather nicely. The Religious Right(tm) seems to spend far too much time on abortion and not on other issues that most people can rally behind. Stacking courts with reglious activists will cause you to lose support for other campaigns, which it seems it already starting to happen. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in abortion. I hate it and I'm as athiest as you can get. I can't stand the thought of a fetus, even still born, being terminated. But I won't tell somebody else what to do nor will I advocate Big Government come in to do it for me. I was also on the side of the husband in the Terry Shiavo case for the same reason. This is a hypocritical view - to claim you believe in "small government" yet you want that government to regulate or ban abortion. You can't have it both ways. There is far too much "selective conservatism" from folks here. Hypocrisy leads to a loss of credibility and a electoral gain for the Democrat Party. Is that what you all want? Drop the abortion issue. Redirect your energies toward all the other problems plaguing our country. |
Thank you. That is what is really at the heart of the matter. The Fabianist agenda is to destroy this country more thoroughly than Communist nukes ever could. Destroy morality, and you destroy the Republic. Destroy the Republic, and you destroy America. Oh sure, the country will exist in name, but not in deed. |
Gay 'Rights' and Abortion are the anchor of the Democratic party.
The commies could never destroy America from the outside. But with a 5th column within the US itself they could slowly redefine the United States until it became a socialist hellhole and while its history slips from the memory of the world. In that way they could utterly and completely destroy the United States and blot the principles it was founded upon from the earth forever. That is why stated communist goals are to take over schools, because that allows them to redefine history to be something altogether different than it is. That is why there are a bunch of silly people running around who think that the 1st ammendment exists to allow titties on TV and has no barrier to stopping free political speech or to stopping the free exercise of religion. "We have always been at war with Eurasia!" |

Dont forget making sure some lazy bastard who doesnt work gets a check, got to make sure he always has and always will
ETA and I so rarely make statements like this it's not even funny. I'm always very open minded and willing to see other people's points of view and respect that they have that choice no matter how much I disagree. The second, and Abortion are the 2 that I am very adamant about. |

The Declaration of Independance profiles the duty of government to protect the rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, in that order (of priority). In order to find out what government is supposed to do, you simply need the definition of life (clearly defined by science, but still disputed, strangely enough). In the case of capital punishment, it should be applied as a punishment for the crime of murder - which was a violation of the victim's right to life. I haven't yet found a flaw in my reasoning, and there is no religious component. But feel free to go ahead thinking only hypocritical religious loons have a belief different from yours. You have the right to be wrong. |

I'm surprised at the relentless harping on this board about abortions. It just seems like a topic that would be more suitable to a woman's site rather than ARFCOM.
Its not like its one of the major fault lines in contemporary society or anything. |
The irony of this is that gay sex and/or abortion had not entered my mind until I logged on to this site, and well what do ya know here it is again.
Honestly abortion and homosexuality are at the bottom of my list. The Democratic party is engaged in a war to take away our individuality. If they had it their way they would take away more of our money and hand it to welfare cases and crack whores, shut down the medical industry, take away our guns and right to self defense and make property ownership a crime.
ETA almost forgot about destroying national soverignty- they would had the keys of this nation to UN if they could. |
I KNEW this would happen - ARFCOM has turned Mogwar gay! |
Thats right, because to people like you, men have no rights when it comes to a woman who wants to murder his own child Oh, I forgot, who would be out of a job if/ when Abortions would be made illegal? |
Somewhere there is a web site discussion board that has a thread going on titled "Do Republicans do anything but restrict the lives of women, and bash gays?"
Ziti, have you been dating transexuals again? |
Conservatives have the majority (for now). The liberals will say anything and everything necessary to change that. While the majority of conservatives see their statements as idiotic, contradictory, and outrageous, we must realize that they don't give a shit about us. They aren't trying to get our vote because they know they never will. Instead they will contradict us at every turn, hoping to suck up the minorities and the ill-informed that will hear one thing they like and cling on to it, ignoring the rest of the crap that comes out of their mouths.
Liberals spend their time trying to please as many people as possible, we only need to please one. |
Actually, they care most about telling lots of stories, and stroking a lot of people to put together coalitions to get elected: power actually is their greatest interest, nothing else. |
No way man, I seen guys in Whisper Alley get burnt...I stay(ed) clear. If it has an apple it has a bannana. I do, however, believe that a man has as much as a right to decide if his child is killed through an abortion or not. |
I disagree as this is "GENERAL FUCKING DISCUSSION". However the fact that you believe so explains why you keep posting here. |
Relax, Doc. (You're not really a Doctor, are you?) I hardly ever kill babies. Sure, I might be responsible for a few unwanted pregnancies here and there, but it's not like I walk around with a coat hangar already straightened out. |
Well, I have my coathanger out. And I thoroughly enjoy poking you with it. Am I doc? Or aren't I? You may never know for sure! I am going to go to one of the major shooting events one of these years and when I do I am going to get a cap with "drjarhead" embroidered on it so all of you guys can come and have your shot at me. Verbally, of course. Afterall, I am such a peace loving man. A very relaxed one at that. My wife thought I was going to have an MI before I was 40 but I am still here and kicking. Obstinate as ever. She tells me I have mellowed a bunch. Should've known me in my Marine Corps days! |
I'd borrow money from the mob to bet that you aren't a doctor. You aren't passing the smell test. I have doubts about the Marine act, too. |
Nope. More handouts, more vote buying. Handing the country over to Mexicans. I am entirely disappointed. |
For a decent wager it might be worthwhile to prove. People here have made such accusations in the past. Mostly envy I imagine. None have been willing to put up the cash to get me to prove either, however. Maybe you've got bigger balls than they do but I doubt it. |
I'll tell you what, $1,000 on each. I will provide necessary info to Ed Avila Sr, if he would be so kind, after funds and he can be the judge. Well? Hmmmmm? |
Your not a Chiro are you? They call themselves Doc, and they shouldn't.....Unless they really have a PHD or what ever...
Sounds like a man has stepped up, shall the other? Ed sr may want a handling fee..... |
LOL, Ziti, you don't even realize what you just did. Maybe you should IM the "doctor". |
