I dunno, I dont think there's "levels" of sexual irresponsibility or deviance.  Either you're an offender or you're not, and if someone's made the list there's probably things they've gotten away with before making the list.  Meaning their mind is already fvcked up.

First of all I bet you are a wind bag who would NOT slaughter the mother fucker that messed with your kids (internet commando). Second not all the people on that list are real offenders. So they SHOULD NOT be all shot.

Threads like these come up every so often.  In a couple of them, people pointed out that one of their "friends" got popped for urinating in public.  They were charged with indecent exposure.  Indecent exposure conviction = sexual offense.

I've never heard of any cases like that but those few people swore that's what happened.

Take it for what it's worth, I guess.

I'm skeptical of cases like that, but who knows?
But i do know an 18 year old in high school could potentially end up on the list.
Is an 18 year old with a 16 or 17 year old girlfriend *really* a sex offender? Well, by definition of the law yes. But I would say no.
Now, the 50 year old down the street who had sex with a 14 year old? Damn skippy he is.

I am not saying that  this is common (most of the people are on the list for molesting kids and such, I have checked and found around 20 within 5 miles).  But you have to remember that the system is not perfect and people can get put it on it by mistake (false convictions, etc).

So, it would really suck to get put on the list by "mistake".

There are also people like Gary Dotson on the list.  Evidence against him was shaky, the police noted that his "victim's" wounds looked self-inflicted, and the "victim" later recanted -- her boyfriend (not Dotson) had gotten her pregnant and she wanted an "excuse" to get an abortion, so she made up a story that she'd been raped.

Hey, if the guy is a pedophile or a rapist or something, fine. He's fucked up.

OTOH, in some places simply pissing behind a dumpster somewhere can be tagged 'indecent exposure' instead of public urination and that's enough to put you on the list.

I'd hate to see someone strung up for the crime of drinking an extra cup of coffee.

A 25yo "banging" a 17yo is most likely opportunistic on the part of the 25yo.  So yeah, IMHO that's a little predatory unless he intends to marry her.  It boils down to motivation and common sense.

Common sense wise though, a 25yo banging a 15yo with plans to marry is just sick due to her age.

You only get tagged with indecent exposure if you're being stupid about it and shaking your wang at people, which is most likely someone that's being DRUNK and stupid.  Not from drinking to much coffee.

Yep - no guy gets charged with stat while he is nailing the underage girl. (guy is 20, girl is 16/17)
Once he breaks up with her though, she decides to get back at him...girls are vindictive, and the courts have enabled them.

I found a friends Dad one night, while my friend was over at my house!!

I had just moved into a new apt (this was 3 years ago) and did a search for sexual predators in my zip code. Well one comes up with my buddys last name,I joked with him about it and said the guys full name (John Doe) well my friend (Mark) freaks out and starts asking some questions about him. like his birthday, what he looks like etc...

I asked Mark his Dads show size and BOOM we had a match!! Come to find out he had remembered something happening when he was a kid with his Dad and a 7-10 yr old female cousin but never knew much about it.

Pretty freaky.

Of course.  I know of dozens.  I put them there.  No,  no "iffy" cases.  they did it alright, several were serial molestors.  As for the teenager angle, 17 is legal in Texas, lower in some states, and there is an exception if the two are within a certain age.  Depending on your location, 2-3 years usually.

If you look at Texas cases for a guide, you will find your average molestor's victim is  an underage FAMILY member who suffers multiple offenses over a period of time.

Lastly, you don't end  up on the list for pissing behind a dumpster.  Read your local statutes on what constitutes an offense.

If you guys are so insistent on that,  post links to your state's code.

I know someone on the offender registry for my parents' town, he was a year behind me in HS.

As I understand it, someone molested his GF's little sister, but nobody knew who. In order to bring them some closure (and to get into the GF's pants by doing so, yes, he was THAT fricken stupid and believed it would bring them closer together), he confessed to the crime he didnt commit, did time in juvie and is now on the offender registry.

Anything to blame the police.

You do realize that the only way you get on a sex offender list is after a recomendation from a court appointed psychologist?  The same psychologist that has to testify under oath that you are a continuing danger and will re-offend?

What if you were into adult "movies", adult "toys", adult "clubs" and that kind of thing, and when you were with a lady that provides "services" for a nominal fee and during the exchange of "services" you happen to be in a town that decided morality issues - which includes this consenting activity as "offensive" and you are arrested, convicted and placed on the site. You are a sexual offender - and in reality all you were doing was enjoying a business deal that harmed nobody. I'm not talking about a child molester - just a john getting his ya-yas.

What if your ex decides to exact a little revenge on you and claims you raped her? What if you get a "hanging judge" and a sympathetic jury? You're convicted, and your face goes on the site.

How about in Texas, as well as a few other states, where a "back massager" cannot be marketed as an adult "toy" because the people in office believe the use of such things is morally wrong? You happen to be the customer buying one of those items, and you are arrested, convicted and your face put up for the world to see as a sex offender?

I think the only offenders are rapists, child molesters, and those freaks into animals.

ETA - to answer the original question... I pull the s/o list in my area about once a month and am amazed at the number of people on it. One area of town I used to live in had 29 in about a 10 block radius. My current neighborhood is much bigger, and we have 53 in this area. I don't know any of the people on the list so I can't say what I would do for sure. I did work with a guy that was in prison for raping a 10 y/o. I didn't know about this until about 6 months after we worked together. I asked the guy about it and he admited to it but said it was during a time in his life when he was heavy into drugs and alcohol. Nevertheless, I never talked to him again. I just couldn't help but think if that girl he raped was "my" daughter. Of course if it was my daughter - a little drive through the Ocala Nat'l Forest would be in order.

Or the guy that gets caught urinating in an alley. Hell all of the women at Mardis Gras are possible sex offenders. Like other people said, it depends on what exactly it was that they did. An 18 year old high schooler who's 17 year old parents decide they don't like him and get him charged with statutory rape isn't a freaking sex offender.

So the day she hits 18 it's no longer predatory? Magically she changes overnight on her birthday? In some states 16 is the age of consent. No I'm not advocating 25 year old men or older sleeping with 17 year olds (I prefer older women myself), but damn they're not freaking rapists and pedophiles.

You should try to find out something of the incident if you are concerned about someone on the list. As noted--there's some good reasons for being put on there, but a few people do get railroaded on rather flimsy charges.

I know of at least one that did--basically, he and her got into a fight; his parents were poor and her parents were rich & well connected locally and they hated him.
