+1

The Clash was the only band that matters.

Tiping the can to the Clash city rocker, the late great Joe Strummer!

Number 3!

You have the right to free speech
as long as
you're not dumb enough
to actually try it.

Punk hates equally. (and hate is really the wrong word)

It wasn't America that he didn't like.....it was everything.

Not true, he liked Sandinistas and lefty BS generally.

The Clash were fascinated by America in general though, particularly hip-hop culture and cowboys. I liked Joe, although a lefty he at least came from the "working class yob" background (although I think his dad was a diplomat) rather than the university limousine liberal group.

RIP.

I remember his song that he did for BHD..

"Ministrel Boy"

The minstrel boy to the war is gone,
In the ranks of death you'll find him;
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him;

"Land of Song!" cried the warrior bard,
(Should) "Tho' all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!"

The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's chain
Could not bring that proud soul under;
The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again,
For he tore its chords asunder;

And said "No chains shall sully thee,
Thou soul of love and brav'ry!
Thy songs were made for the pure and free
They shall never sound in slavery!

RIP.
