Still by Lionel Ritchie.
Lady, Morning's just a moment away And I'm without you once again You laughed at me You said you never needed me I wonder if you need me now Chorus: So many dreams that flew away So many words we didn't say Two people lost in a storm Where did we go? Where'd we go? We lost what we both had found You know we let each other down But then most of all I Do Love You Still! (chorus) We played the games that people play We made our mistakes along the way Somehow I know deep in my heart You needed me 'Cause I needed you so desperatly! We were too blind to see But then most of all I Do Love You Still! |

Do you have a digital version of this? Can you send it to me? This is totally MY depressing day list. |
|
|
Gotta agree with one just mentioned.
"Brick" by Ben Folds Five is an incredibly depressing song recounting what happened when the singer's girlfriend got pregnant and decided to have an abortion. Very sad song and a very evenhanded account of what an abortion means. |
|
Pink Floyd - The Final Cut(Half the songs on this album are depressing)
Pretty much any "my dying bride" album(metal band) The Beatles - My Life(not really depressing in itself but they played it for my fathers funeral so I think of that if I hear that song.) |
|
Sara Beth-Rascal Flatts
Whisky Lullaby-Brad Paisly and Allison Krauss The dance w/ video -Garth Brooks Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton |
|
The End by Pink Floyd. Albeit it's only 30 seconds long but makes you want to off yourself.
|
|
Bruce Springsteen USED to be good.
Nebraska is dark dark dark The River is only half dark... Independence Day: Its just that there's different people coming down here now And they see things in different ways And soon everything we know Will just be swept away Lots of depressing stuff in that album. Great stuff. |

Romeo and Juliet----Dire Straits
A lovestruck romeo sings a streetsus serenade Laying everybody low with me a lovesong that he made Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade Says something like you and me babe how about it ? Juliet says hey it’s romeo you nearly gimme a heart attack He’s underneath the window she’s singing hey la my boyfriend’s back You shouldn’t come around here singing up at people like that Anyway what you gonna do about it ? Juliet the dice were loaded from the start And I bet and you exploded in my heart And I forget the movie song When you wanna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ? Come up on differents streets they both were streets of shame Both dirty both mean yes and the dream was just the same And I dreamed your dream for you and your dream is real How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals ? Where you can fall for chains of silver you can fall for chains of gold You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold You promised me everything you promised me think and thin Now you just says oh romeo yeah you know I used to have a scene with him Juliet when we made love you used to cry You said I love you like the stars above I’ll love you till I die There’s a place for us you know the movie song When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ? I can’t do the talk like they talk on tv And I can’t do a love song like the way it’s meant to be I can’t do everything but I’d do anything for you I can’t do anything except be in love with you And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be All do is keep the beat and bad company All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme Julie I’d do the stars with you any time Juliet when we made love you used to cry You said I love you like the stars above I’ll love you till I die There’s a place for us you know the movie song When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ? A lovestruck romeo sings a streetsus serenade Laying everybody low with me a lovesong that he made Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade Says something like you and me babe how about it ? |

Most depressing Dire Straits song: Telegraph Road
A long time ago came a man on a track Walking thirty miles with a pack on his back And he put down his load where he thought it was the best Made a home in the wilderness He built a cabin and a winter store And he ploughed up the ground by the cold lake shore And the other travellers came riding down the track And they never went further, no, they never went back Then came the churches then came the schools Then came the lawyers then came the rules Then came the trains and the trucks with their loads And the dirty old track was the telegraph road Then came the mines - then came the ore Then there was the hard times then there was a war Telegraph sang a song about the world outside Telegraph road got so deep and so wide Like a rolling river. . . And my radio says tonight it’s gonna freeze People driving home from the factories There’s six lanes of traffic Three lanes moving slow. . . I used to like to go to work but they shut it down I got a right to go to work but there’s no work here to be found Yes and they say we’re gonna have to pay what’s owed We’re gonna have to reap from some seed that’s been sowed And the birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles They can always fly away from this rain and this cold You can hear them singing out their telegraph code All the way down the telegraph road You know I’d sooner forget but I remember those nights When life was just a bet on a race between the lights You had your head on my shoulder you had your hand in my hair Now you act a little colder like you don’t seem to care But believe in me baby and I’ll take you away From out of this darkness and into the day From these rivers of headlights these rivers of rain From the anger that lives on the streets with these names ’cos I’ve run every red light on memory lane I’ve seen desperation explode into flames And I don’t want to see it again. . . from all of these signs saying sorry but we’re closed All the way down the telegraph road |

Dream On, by Nazareth. Utterly depressing. Keep sharp instruments, firearms, and lengths of rope out of reach when you listen to it.

Bruce Springsteen- Wreck on the Highway
Last night I was out driving Coming home at the end of the working day I was riding alone through the drizzling rain On a deserted stretch of a county two-lane When I came upon a wreck on the highway There was blood and glass all over And there was nobody there but me As the rain tumbled down hard and cold I seen a young man lying by the side of the road He cried Mister, won't you help me please An ambulance finally came and took him to Riverside I watched as they drove him away And I thought of a girlfriend or a young wife And a state trooper knocking in the middle of the night To say your baby died in a wreck on the highway Sometimes I sit up in the darkness And I watch my baby as she sleeps Then I climb in bed and I hold her tight I just lay there awake in the middle of the night Thinking 'bout the wreck on the highway |

Scorpions - Winds of Change
I follow the Moskva Down to Gorky Park Listening to the wind of change An August summer night Soldiers passing by Listening to the wind of change The world closing in Did you ever think That we could be so close, like brothers The future's in the air I can feel it everywhere Blowing with the wind of change Chorus: Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away In the wind of change Walking down the street Distant memories Are buried in the past forever I fallow the Moskva Down to Gorky Park Listening to the wind of change Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams With you and me Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away In the wind of change The wind of change blows straight Into the face of time Like a stormwind that will ring The freedom bell for peace of mind Let your balalaika sing What my guitar wants to say Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams With you and me Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away In the wind of change |

SGT. Mackenzie
Written by Joseph Kilna Mackenzie about an actual event in World War 1 where his grandfather SGT. Mackenzie of the British Seaforth Highlanders stayed to defend a wounded friend when there trench was over run by the Germans when the rest of his unit retreated, even though he could have left, both SGT. Mackenzie, and his wounded friend were bayoneted to death by the Germans.... Lay me down in the cold, cold ground Where before many more have gone. Lay me down in the cold, cold ground Where before many more have gone. When they come, I will stand my ground. Stand my ground - I'll not be afraid. Thoughts of home take away my fear. Sweat and blood hide my veil of tears. Once a year, say a prayer for me. Close your eyes and remember me. No more shall I see the sun For I fell to a German's gun. Lay me down in the cold, cold ground Where before many more have gone. Lay me down in the cold, cold ground Where before many more have gone. Where before many more have gone. Riding With Private Malone Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald Hurt And ofcourse: Taps |

Cant remember, but the River sure was sad. "For my 19th birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat..." |

For overall mood, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" has to be the most depressing song to ever hit the airwaves. The organ adds to the sound of a funeral song.
A lot of people like Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" but I find that almost in the same league. I don't find Live's "Lightning Crashes" depressing. I find the strength of the vocals and the power of the drumming to be kinda triumphant. "The Pass" by Rush is supposed to be an anti-suicide anthem, but the lyrics are pretty sad. "Christ! What have you done?" |

"Highway Patrolman" My name is Joe Roberts I work for the state I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville barracks number 8 I always done an honest job as honest as I could I got a brother named Franky and Franky ain't no good Now ever since we was young kids it's been the same come down I get a call over the radio Franky's in trouble downtown Well if it was any other man, I'd put him straight away But when it's your brother sometimes you look the other way Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good Well Franky went in the army back in 1965 I got a farm deferment, settled down, took Maria for my wife But them wheat prices kept on droppin' till it was like we were gettin' robbed Franky came home in '68, and me, I took this job Yea we're laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin', teach him how to walk that line Man turns his back on his family he ain't no friend of mine Well the night was like any other, I got a call 'bout quarter to nine There was trouble in a roadhouse out on the Michigan line There was a kid lyin' on the floor lookin' bad bleedin' hard from his head there was a girl cryin' at a table and it was Frank, they said Well I went out and I jumped in my car and I hit the lights Well I must of done one hundred and ten through Michigan county that night It was out at the crossroads, down round Willow bank Seen a Buick with Ohio plates behind the wheel was Frank Well I chased him through them county roads till a sign said Canadian border five miles from here I pulled over the side of the highway and watched his taillights disappear Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' Nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good |

I disagree with Enya's "Only Time" as being depressing.
The whole point of the song is about hope. That only time can reveal what will happen. I think it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Lyrics:
Now, for depressing, how about Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)"
Or, Suzanne Vega's "Luka"? Did you know it was about child abuse from the victim's perspective?

Yea.. Thats another one....... I never thought I'd, I'd die alone I laughed the loudest, who'd have known? I traced the cord back to the wall No wonder it was never plugged in at all I took my time, I hurried up The choice was mine, I didn't think enough I'm too depressed, To go on You'll be sorry when I'm gone I never conquered, rarely came 16 just held such better days Days when I still felt alive We couldn't wait to get outside The world was wide, too late to try The tour was over, we'd survived I couldn't wait till I got home To pass the time in my room alone I never thought I'd die alone Another six months I'll be unknown Give all my things to all my friends You'll never step foot in my room again You'll close it off,You'll board it up Remember the time that I spilled the cup Of apple juice in the hall Please tell mom this is not her fault I never conquered, rarely came 16 just held such better days Days when I still felt alive We couldn't wait to get outside The world was wide, too late to try The tour was over, we'd survived I couldn't wait till I got home To pass the time in my room alone I never conquered, rarely came Tomorrow holds such better days Days when I can still feel alive When I cant wait to get outside The world is wide, the time goes by The tour is over, I survived I can't wait till I get home To pass the time in my room alone |

Taxi by Harry Chapin
It was raining hard in 'Frisco, I needed one more fare to make my night. A lady up ahead waved to flag me down, She got in at the light. Oh, where you going to, my lady blue, It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain. She just looked out the window, and said "Sixteen Parkside Lane". Something about her was familiar I could swear I'd seen her face before, But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken" And she didn't say anything more. It took a while, but she looked in the mirror, And she glanced at the license for my name. A smile seemed to come to her slowly, It was a sad smile, just the same. And she said, "How are you Harry?" I said, "How are you Sue? Through the too many miles and the too little smiles I still remember you." It was somewhere in a fairy tale, I used to take her home in my car. We learned about love in the back of the Dodge, The lesson hadn't gone too far. You see, she was gonna be an actress, And I was gonna learn to fly. She took off to find the footlights, And I took off to find the sky. Oh, I've got something inside me, To drive a princess blind. There's a wild man, wizard, He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind. Oh, I've got something inside me, Not what my life's about, Cause I've been letting my outside tide me, Over 'till my time, runs out. Baby's so high that she's skying, Yes she's flying, afraid to fall. I'll tell you why baby's crying, Cause she's dying, aren't we all. There was not much more for us to talk about, Whatever we had once was gone. So I turned my cab into the driveway, Past the gate and the fine trimmed lawns. And she said we must get together, But I knew it'd never be arranged. And she handed me twenty dollars, For a two fifty fare, she said "Harry, keep the change." Well another man might have been angry, And another man might have been hurt, But another man never would have let her go... I stashed the bill in my shirt. And she walked away in silence, It's strange, how you never know, But we'd both gotten what we'd asked for, Such a long, long time ago. You see, she was gonna be an actress And I was gonna learn to fly. She took off to find the footlights, And I took off for the sky. And here, she's acting happy, Inside her handsome home. And me, I'm flying in my taxi, Taking tips, and getting stoned, I go flying so high, when I'm stoned. Followed closely by Dan Fogelberg's Same Old Lang Syne. Nothing like some gloom for the Yuletide season! After hearing this song you'll know why the suicide rate jumps during the holidays. |

Same Old Lang Syne
(Dan Fogelberg) Met my old lover in the grocery store, The snow was falling Christmas Eve. I stole behind her in the frozen foods, And I touched her on the sleeve. She didn't recognize the face at first, But then her eyes flew open wide. She went to hug me and she spilled her purse, And we laughed until we cried. We took her groceries to the checkout stand, The food was totalled up and bagged. We stood there lost in our embarrassment, As the conversation dragged. We went to have ourselves a drink or two, But couldn't find an open bar. We bought a six-pack at the liquor store, And we drank it in her car. We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to now. And tried to reach beyond the emptiness, But neither one knew how. She said she'd married her an architect, Who kept her warm and safe and dry, She would have liked to say she loved the man, But she didn't like to lie. I said the years had been a friend to her, And that her eyes were still as blue. But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw, Doubt or gratitude. She said she saw me in the record stores, And that I must be doing well. I said the audience was heavenly, But the traveling was hell. We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to now. And tried to reach beyond the emptiness, But neither one knew how. We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to time. Reliving in our eloquence, Another 'auld lang syne'...... The beer was empty and our tongues were tired, And running out of things to say. She gave a kiss to me as I got out, And I watched her drive away. Just for a moment I was back at school, And felt that old familiar pain ......... And as I turned to make my way back home, The snow turned into rain .............. |

Love Hurts - Emmylou Harris & Graham Parson
Love hurts, love scars, love wounds and mars Any heart not tough or strong enough To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain Love is like a cloud holds a lot of rain Love hurts, mmm, mmm, love hurts. I'm young I know but even so I know a thing or two I learned from you I really learned a lot, really learned a lot Love is like a stove burns you when it's hot Love hurts, mmm, mmm, love hurts. Some fools think of happiness Blissfulness, togetherness Some fools fool themselves I guess But they're not fooling me I know it isn't true, know it isn't true Love is just a lie made to make you blue Love hurts, mmm, mmm, love hurts... |

You guys must be on crack. Just give a listen to that poor little girl who saw her mommy kissing Santa Claus under the Christmas tree! The child is ruined. Christmas is tainted. I bawl like a baby when I hear that tear-jerker.
