| If a non-lethal booby trap is used to detect tresspassers would there be any legal liabilities? Something that would make a loud boom but not sling a projectile. I was thinking about something tripwire activated that would detonate a safe distance from the trip area. Maybe a 12 gauge blank. I could fab a few dozen of them for less money than a trail camera. My goal is to scare the turds away and alert me and my neighbor that some ner-do-well is about. Waist high on the monofiliment tripwire should keep the dogs from setting it off. |

Monofiliment tripwire (fishing line) shows up real nice at night with a flashlight. Edit to add something constructive. If a person on your property injurs themselves from running due to the loud noise and breaks their leg, well, get ready to have a law suit on you hands. Just information, I *personally* feel that if someone did set a noise device off and injured themselves they would not tell anyone for fear of being prosecuted for criminal trespass. Just my $.02 |

Shotgun shell toe- poppers w/ the shot removed maybe some tanrite in a small envelope on an mouse trap --not sure if the snap would ignite it though-- perhaps a large primer instead ? something in the order of "yep you just set off a homemade mine and next time you may have a permanent limp!" Mine simulators work good too if you can find em. Remove the fuse from an "M-80" type firecracker and replace with a model rocket ignitor. then use with 9 volt battery and either a straight contact circuit or relay activated by a sensor, photocell.pressure pad etc --that way the M 80 is sufficently remote to prevent injury but alert you and make sure that the subject in question has to go home and change uderwear right away. Or some glow in the dark ping pong balls and some "radioactive" signs for the trees along the perimiter --scatter the balls in a zone just inside the signs. |

If you're interested I can dig up a URL to one of my paintball equipment websites that sells a pressure trip mine that you can use a burst tube with and talcum powder (or not). It has a video that you can watch of it in action. Since it is pressure operated, no trip wires. Here it is http://hstrial-avanderplaats.homestead.com/NewProducts.html Scroll down to the M80 TR Antipersonnel Mine. |
These days you've got to be a bit on the paranoid side when it comes to liability. A friend of mine was sued last year by a woman that stopped on the side of the road to change a flat tire and fell into a ditch. Obviously the road wasn't his property, but the ditch was. He was going to fight it, but his insurance company refused to pursue it and paid her off. Then they jacked his rates up to make up for it!

let me get this right... i have a blow out, i pull over to change my tire... i am too fat to be able to ballance my self when bent over changeing my tire... i roll into the ditch because of my unproportionate body mass, and it is the land owners fault? jesus christ, give me a break |
I see no difference in a trip wire and a remotely located "blank" than a motion sensor attached to a floolight or siren. Bad guy walks up to house, hits motion sensor, light (alarm) goes on, he runs away cause he is afraid of being seen, trips jumping over fence and breaks leg. If I was on the jury...I'd aquit the homeowner and ask the police why the injured party was not being charged with criminal trespass. Just my thoughts. No Expert |
