I make a good living. Over 6 figures. Okay, the low six figures, but six all the same. I just paid my bills and balanced my checkbook. I have $4.47 in my checking account. The next pay day is on the 20th. I am rolling coins right now. Looking at turning the recycle stuff in for cash. Other than my mortgage (which is cheaper than rent around here) and paying off the ex from the recent divorce I have absolutely no debt. No car payment, no credit cards, no nothing. Never over extended. I have always been the one who saves and plans for the future. I have never been broke, ever. Danged ex screwed all of that up. Oh well. Christmas is going to be interesting. I guess I better brush up on my baking skills. I know, quit yer' bitchin'. I have a good job, a house, two wonderful children, my health and a pretty girlfriend who has seen me naked and still wants to be with me. I just needed to vent. |
Next time, get a prenup!! |
| Well, things could be worse. Like you said, you have a house and 2 good kids, not to mention the girlfriend. An old gentleman I had a lot of respect for always told me "The money will take care of itself." I didn't know what he meant at the time, but over the years it has held true. Never been in a major bind yet..... |
Yeah, well 18 years ago, when I wasn't making anywhere near what I do now, a prenup wouldn't have made any difference. California is a no fault state. We had no problems with dividing assets. The problem was with real estate and my retirement funds. Both acquired after marriage. She legally gets half. |
You have to remember, 6 figures in Kalifornia is like minimum wage in other parts of the country You should move to Texas... $100K would last you a lot longer. |
You have the makings of a country music song there. You need to get dumped by a woman and add something about your dog. |
LOL! You've never heard my divorce story, have you? |
|
Ehhhhh. Despite all of this I'm actually pretty happy with my life. Just a bit worried about the money. BTW who's bright idea was it to make property tax payments due just before Christmas? I never had that problem when I had my VA loan, it had an impound account. But I had to refinance to pay off the ex and still keep the house so I lost that loan. |
Ohhh.. My...... GAWD ! BWAHAHAHAHAHA !A PIG, no less ! Dat's too funny ! |

No debt other than the house Yes it is tight right now but you are in better shape then most of the sheeple who make less and are in hock to their ass. You will make it Christmas is not about the gifts. I walk outside I look at my home and I see the tarps on the roof and the holes in the siding from the tornado one month ago. I walk four houses East where the neighbors lived and there is a hole in the ground. You see I still have a house and my stuff, many of the people in my neighborhood lost everything and are living in hotels and shelters they would love your problem. |
A lot of Californians re-finance their lifestyle, sucking money out of their house and making the payments higher to live beyond their means. I was there a couple days ago. It seems it is the norm. ![]() Likewise, you buy a cheap house 10 years ago and now it is $650000. You have to give the ex-wife half of the equity or sell and do the same. A cheap house is $3000 a month or more. Costco has Kraft Macaroni and Cheese cheaper than anywhere!
