I'm sitting here watching the upload/download status. I'm uploading at 12 times the rate I'm downloading. Overall, I've uploaded 166% of the amount I've downloaded for this file.

I don't mind the whole 'give as good as you get' bit. I don't mind giving more than I've gotten. But this is geting a little ridiculous. The count down timer actually went backwards for a while.

Is the indicator icon green? How many seeds/peers are you connected to? Give it some time, mine usually start off slow and speed up later on.

Bittorrent rocks

Sounds more like the person that configured your client blows.

Yeah, get someone who is famiiar with the operation of Bit Torrent, to adjust the download/upload rates etc.    The actual implications of those values will influence your download rate.  My children are really good at this stuff and they download huge files in a day or 2.

That's just it, I was near the end of the download. Now this download, I started one about an hour ago, is going much better.

If you're behind a router, setup port trigger for 6881 to 6890.
I saw my d/l speeds jump from 10 kb/s to as much as 250 kb/s on some downloads.

If you're using the official bittorrent client, slide the upload slider down if you're not happy sending so much.

I didn't mind sending, just a 12 to 1 was a little crazy.

I'm using the a Mac version, so I don't see a slider.

Or perhaps I did read the FAQ and have my router configured and it's still slow as shit.

then obviously its not your system.  and there are not enough seeders

Also try setting the maximum upload speed to about 80% of your upload speed. There is also a bittorrent client available that doesn't upload. That pisses me off, don't those idiots realize what they are doing? If everyone used it noone would get anything.

+1, not enough seeds or peers. What's the swarm speed?

It said there was 19 seeds in 26 peers. The last download anyway. This one is moving at quite a better clip. Instead of downloading at 2KB/s and uploading at 24KB/s it's 20 and 24 respectively, 24 seeds in 36 peers.

What's the chance of getting sued for using BitTorrent?

You can't be sued for using bittorrent. I'm assuming that mean downloading RIAA protected music. Since your IP is shown to everyone that you connect to the chances are pretty damn good that could be sued.

Well, there it went again. Tore through the first 1/2 of the download and it has now slowed down to a crawl.  Wonderful, just wonderful. I actually went from 2 hr 45m left to 3hr 15m left..
