Are recoil buffers worth the money?

Are some guns more in need of them than others?

I think so.

I have 1911's I wouldn't run with out one....got em in AK's and FAL's as well, and yah, they seem to work, preventing battering.

Others will have differing opininons....here's the skinny:

New, they may interfere with things like the slide locking back on an empty mag. Annoying, but ok.  (1911 specific)

Thing is they need to be replaced after a while, otherwise they can shred, and hold up the works.

I have a buffer in a 1911 that's gone an easy 3k rounds and has not shredded, but it's time to replace. I have FAL buffers that have gone an easy 5k and show no need of replacement.

Just be aware...they can be the cause of problems.

YMMV.

I put one in my Kimber compact .45 and it seemed to cycle just fine...Until I took it to the range and tried livefire.  It was causing jams at least one out of 7. I assume because it was keeping the slide from going fully back.

Took it out, and we are back to 100%  Lesson learned for me: Be very cautious what you put in your self defense weapons.

I use Wilson Shok-buff in my 1911 type guns.  It doesn't cause any ejection problems, but it does mess with the timing of ejecting the fired case.

I have some of the blue ones from Wilson Combat in my 1911s for practice. I don`t have one on my carry gun. They prevent my Les Baer from useing the "sling shot" method after slide lock, but not my Colts.

I believe one Co. makes some a bit thinner than the most common width. I don`t remember which one.

I was looking at them for AK, AR, and my Camp Carbine.

I got one for my AK and somehow it seems to kick more with it in than without.

I use them in my AK's and Galil. Got one to try in a G3 but have yet to install it...

The money that you spend on recoil buffers could be better spent on ammo

Sorry, didn't see the thread...Buffertech.

For the $20, considering how I've abused what they're in, I'd say it's a worthy buy.

Just me though, YMMV.

I use shok buffs, but I am wondering if I really should.

I have heard that on the one hand they do create a greater likelihood of FTE's and FTF's,

and on the other hand...

They can't hurt your pistol, only help it.

What to do...

I use Wilson Shok-bufs in my LAR Grizzley 45 Win Mag, and 2 of them in my Colt Delta Gold Cup.

A friend of mine really had to twist my arm to get me to use them....I use the CP Shock Buff from Brownell's on my Series 80 and I have to admit, it makes for a smooth shooter if you use a Wolff 18.5 along with it.  I've been usig them for a few years now and I have slowly grown to trust them...YMMV.
