Are recoil buffers worth the money? Are some guns more in need of them than others? |
|
I think so. I have 1911's I wouldn't run with out one....got em in AK's and FAL's as well, and yah, they seem to work, preventing battering. Others will have differing opininons....here's the skinny: New, they may interfere with things like the slide locking back on an empty mag. Annoying, but ok. (1911 specific) Thing is they need to be replaced after a while, otherwise they can shred, and hold up the works. I have a buffer in a 1911 that's gone an easy 3k rounds and has not shredded, but it's time to replace. I have FAL buffers that have gone an easy 5k and show no need of replacement. Just be aware...they can be the cause of problems. YMMV. |

I put one in my Kimber compact .45 and it seemed to cycle just fine...Until I took it to the range and tried livefire. It was causing jams at least one out of 7. I assume because it was keeping the slide from going fully back. Took it out, and we are back to 100% Lesson learned for me: Be very cautious what you put in your self defense weapons. |
I believe one Co. makes some a bit thinner than the most common width. I don`t remember which one. |
| A friend of mine really had to twist my arm to get me to use them....I use the CP Shock Buff from Brownell's on my Series 80 and I have to admit, it makes for a smooth shooter if you use a Wolff 18.5 along with it. I've been usig them for a few years now and I have slowly grown to trust them...YMMV. |
