I'm going on my first deer hunt next year and was wondering --When you shot your first deer did you drink some blood like in Red Dawn?

In my tribe we suck out the steaming ass.

I was nineteen and did not drink any blood or eat the raw heart or any other foolishness.

Foolishness? I was kinda looking forward to the blood drinking.

It's your deer.  Do what you want to with it.  Just let me get my bridle and saddle off of it.

Don't know if Hawaii has a deer season, so if you hunt in Colorado or Wyoming, I would NOT consume any RAW part of the deer or elk, for that matter.

Chronic wasting disease (similar to mad cow disease) is not very prevalent but is a reality here.

I'll have to look into that -Chronic wasting disease doesn't sound fun. I'm going to hunt on Lanai (one of the smaller Hawaiian islands) in the spring. Supposed to be tons of deer there. I picked pineapples there one summer and we saw some pretty big racks just walking around the fields, you coulda shot one with a pistol they were so close.

Our custom is to streak your face with a little blood.  Either your cheeks or forehead.
11/30/2005 4:16:42 PM EDT
[#10]
Normal custom is to eat the warm fecal matter from the bowels.

Can you guess what I picked?  Although the guys went a little overboard.

Ugh...haven't worn glasses since LASIK over a year ago.  Now it seems weird seeing me in them.

It just seems a little funny to me that your face has deer blood on it, and the only part of the deer in that picture that's bloody is its hiney.

Cooking probably wont help with cronic wasting disease. It comes from prions.

I believe that CWD is also only in the spine and brain matter. Careful cutting up the animal and you should be good to go.

I thought you were supposed to take a big bite out of the liver. BTW- I didn't do any of that. I got enough blood all over me cleaning my first one that I didn't have to smear any on my face

Killed my 1st at 14, I was a late bloomer. I didn't drink the blood. There wasn't enough left over after I coated myself in it.
