Okay, before I get flamed, hear me out. I am new to this board and am amazed at the mentality of some members. While there are many LEO/Military members on this board that actually "kick down doors" and need to be tactically prepared, the majority of people on this board are "paper pushers." Why all of the "I have to be prepared for the end of the world" mentality. Now, I carry everday because I can. But I don't see the point of extra mags, necklace knife, pocket tactical light, etc. Now, I do keep xtra mags in the truck. It just seems that some guys are either posing or mentally incapable of sound judgement. EDIT TO READ A SHIT POT OF EXTRA MAGS. The remaider of the post will remain in it original content. |

Great replies fellas. Anybody else. I'm not trying to start shit or throw mud. Just curious. I have a vast collection and have grown up around guns. I am also in the military and have done my time serivng in a tactical capacity. Just wonering why the overkill from average joes |
You sound real tough behind a computer. Your overwealous replies don't suprise me. Anybody intelligent want to reply. |
Not that I'm necessarily one of the tinfoil hat crowd who is super-tactical and prepared, but a number of scenarios of "the end of the world" are VERY HARD to predict. For instance, ... we KNOW that a meteor will hit the planet and cause massive extinction - at some point. We just don't know when. ... we KNOW that the supervolcano in Yellowstone will blow, potentially destroying the U.S. - at some point. We just don't know when. ... we KNOW that a viral pandemic of some kind (virulent flu, mutated plague, new virus from pigs, cattle, birds, etc) will eventually occur, potentially killing a substantial propotion of the human population. We just don't know when, or how severe. ... for all we know, some alien invasion or zombie horde is planning our downfall as we speak. While all these events are highly unlikely in my lifetime, I'd at least like to be somewhat prepared - just in case the world does go to pot, and all my unprepared neighbors assault my house to get at my huge hoard of spam in the basement. Note - I'm not talking about carrying a batman belt full of "tactical" accesories on an everyday basis - but I do think there is some prudence in having some "survival" preparedness at your house. The tricky question is of course HOW MUCH? And some people definitely go overboard.

We want to be like you. |

Sheesh guys, give him a break. It's a fair question. 1. Gun owners are one of the, if not the most persecuted social group in this country. I bought my first gun in 1994 out of defiance to the scumbags who would "ban" evil assault weapons. If you told me I couldn't own a 4-slice toaster, I'd buy one of those too - it just so happens that I get even more pissy about it when it's a God-given, constitutional right. 2. Gun owners are usually quite politically aware and as such, know the direction this country is slowly heading. 3. Being prepared just makes good sense. Ask anyone who has put out a fire with a fire extinguisher. 4. We have similar political beliefs as survivalists, and we share some common threads there. 5. I have been carjacked before. Thus, I carry a handgun. |

My home is prepared and I do carry extra mags, just not one in each of my back pockets like some boneheads on this board have mentioned. Lets hear some more. |
|
Spun? My dear sir, you are here to amuse us. Please continue.

Don't delude yourself. Our contempt for your condescension doesn't mean that we are "spun up." It just means you're doing a good imitation of a jackass. |
I'd say "paranoid" describes someone who as a newbie is, "...amazed at the mentality of some members... ", describes the majority as "...paper pushers...", and then says they are "mentally incapable of sound judgement..." Oh, no, it's not YOU, it's the rest of the world who's crazy. ![]() OK, I'll give you a break. You're barely over 21. Print this tread and tuck it away for when you're 40 or so and/or have been through some real shit, then read it again to see what a naive litttle comment you wasted on post number 42. |
You mean, armed like cops? That is a bit odd. After all, most violent crime is committed against cops, so why would an average Joe need to be armed like that? I'm with you. I'll keep watching for a reasonable answer. |

If you recall there were three big storms that hit the Gulf coast. We call them Hurricanes. They are natural disasters. The electricity goes out, roads are blocked, homes are damaged and the police are unable to respond to every plea for help. There were a lot of people who used flashlights BECAUSE THE SUN WAS DOWN AND THEY HAD NO ELECTRICITY. They also had these bad people called looters. You need extra mags to shoot them. I am sure some looter shooting went on in NO. You may feel secure in where you live, but if a natural disaster where to hit your area you are going to look very stupid for not having a high-intensity flash light. Us paranoid nut jobs will be laughing at you. |

It has nothing to do with likelihood, and it has everything to do with whats at stake. I love my family very much, and if doing everything in my power to keep them safe makes me a "loon", then I'm happy to be the craziest son of a bitch this side of the Mississippi. Besides, I like Guns. So WTF is anyone gonna do about it? Take em?

DK-Prof, with all due respect, I generally enjoy your posts and find them to be well reasoned and insightful. Batman has "utility" belt. Please do your homework. ![]() go2navy (I think?) Are you ready? Wait for it...... wait for it... BECAUSE WE CAN!!! IT'S STILL A FREE COUNTRY!!! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, LEAVE!!! OK rant off sorry. ETA: spelling |
Five out of six people will be the victim of a violent crime in their lifetime. Hows that for reasonable. |
And these people are bothering you because??? Let people make their own decisions on what they deem appropriate. BTW, why exactly are you against a flashlight and an extra mag? I would love to understand your logic... EPOCH |
I like guns too and keep one with me at all times. I am 30, have a wife and 3 kids. I too want to keep them safe, but leaving the house armed like Rambo is ridiculous. |
|
I personally don't carry a flash-light or an extra mag, but I see nothing wrong with doing so. if you think that it is not worth it, then you should have centered your post around that instead of on attacking those who disagree. Its not like it takes that much more out of your day, or that much effort, to put a flashlight and a magazine in your pocket. That's like saying that I am paranoid because I take the two seconds to put my seatbelt on everyday, even though each particular time that I do it I probably won't need it. But eventually if I do need it and I don't have it, well then I'm up shit creek. |
