My son likes Comedy. Last coupe lf of years I've bought him for Christmas the 3 stooges DVDs. He loves them but I have to admit I'm a bit tired of he and his brother slapping each others and being poked in the eyes [I have yet to perfect the hand over the nose reflex]. Any suggestions? I thought I might try that one comedian that plays the piano. I can't remember his name off hand Boris something or rather but I'm not sure if he would get the humor. I can't remember if he joked generally enough or if you'd have to be up on current events of that time to get the jokes. Patty |

Two words: Bill Cosby. Trust me, they will love him. Start off with "To My Brother Russell Whom I Slept With" and "200 Mile An Hour." Don't know if they are on video, but the audio version will suffice. ETA: I believe it is Victor Borge to whom you refer. Also funny, but Cosby is, IMO, much funnier. |
Ray Stevens, Bob Newheart, old Bill Cosby stuff, . Victor Borge, incidentally, is the piano playing comedian you are thinking of.(I think). His jokes are sight and sound gags with the piano. My favorite is one where he is going to play with an opera singer. He plays the intro and she hits this loud high note, which "scares" him so bad he falls off the piano bench. He re-arranges all of his things and then opens the piano bench and folds out a seatbelt which he uses to keep him in his seat. |

Victor Borge Classic Jerry Lewis movies "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" All these made me laugh when I was a kid. I still love Victor Borge, and "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" has been on one of the classic movie channels recently and it still holds up. Edit: Oh yeah, the early Cosby stuff is a RIOT... |
Agreed, the man is a genius. |
One of the best movies ever. And when Patty's son grows up, he can watch the movie with his girlfriends and get some major points for it. INCONTHIEVABLE!!!! |
The Princess Bride is currently in the McNary Family Movie Library. We watch it at least once a month. "You've been nearly dead all day" |
Sweet!! It's in a spot of honor in my library!!! Literally, it is probably my favorite movie...followed by Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dick ( about Dick Nixon...not the "other dick"....) and Romi and Michelle's High School Reunion..... |
Yes, they do. I saw the second season in Circuit City the other day.... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001ZX0EW/002-2824086-8205645?v=glance&n=130&n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007LPSI6/002-2824086-8205645?v=glance&n=130&n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance ![]() |
I am pretty sure that advocating the death of Bob Saget is similar to advocating the death of terrorists, which is perfectly acceptable under the COC. |

Who? must google.... ohh, you mean this guy -- Brad Stine. christianparadise.com/bradstine/ |
Is visual a bad thing? ... Oh, BTW, on the Gallagher suggestion, Gallagher isn't particularly clean (though not really that dirty either), and a lot of his material will go over young kids' heads, I think. Depends on how old they are. They'll love the sledge-o-matic parts though. Oh, and a +1 for Sinbad. |
Have you seen him outside Full House or America's Funniest Home Videos? He's actually a fairly funny comedian if he isn't forced to read crappy writers' junk. Very dirty comedy, though. Definitely not for kids. |
Oh, man how could I forget Jerry Clower? I have several of his albums. Some of his stuff is more storytelling than joke-telling, but he has some great jokes in there too. I love the one about Jerry being at the Ledbetter's house when they were eating dinner and had one piece of fried chicken left on the platter. Manners said you didn't take the last piece, but they all wanted it. Then a wind blew the lamp out, and suddenly Uncle Versey screamed like he'd been shot. They got the lamp lit back, and there were five forks stuck in the back of Uncle Versey's hand. |

I lived with a bunch of Mormons during college ... no alcohol, no caffeine, no profanity, no innuendo and no racy stuff on the telly. Have you tried Hogan's Heroes? Seasons 1 and 2 are out on DVD. Bonus points because of the WW2 aspect (hey, this is a gun website). The show gets repetitive after a while but they're still great. Werner Klemperer (who also portrayed a Nazi judge in Judgement at Nuremberg), Bob Crane and John Banner all do great jobs. Good clean fun, this is -- and slightly educational, for a young kid. There are some significant (real) events covered by the series, including the (failed) assassination attempt on Hitler's life, the Manhattan Project, the Nazi High Command's infatuation with the occult, the introduction of the Tiger tank, D-Day, etc. |
I loved Hogan's Heros as a kid. I wonder if he would like it. About 5 years ago I had to force my kids [I threaten to ground them from everything for the entire summer] to make the shut up and watch an entire episode of Green Acres. I just about tossed in the towel after that one. I laughed clear through it but they didn't get any of it.

Don't force your kids to read, listen to or watch anything. Disconnect the Cable TV and the interweb and leave the DVD's, Tapes, records and books around. They will discover it on their own and want to share the experience with you. Mandatory fun isn't. |
The driving instructor is a riot. My wife doesn't agree.

Good Advice. Thanks DV9 |
I like the torpedo on the beach. "Willard, if we can save just one human life -- oh, that's how you feel about it, eh?" |

My wife was tired of me complaining about the "comdey" we have today that is unsuitable for family viewing, so she bought me a 21-tape set of the Little Rascals (4 episodes per tape!). My Dad watched them in theaters, I saw them on TV, and my kids watched them on VHS. Timeless. We have also picked up some Abbott & Costello. We have a Christmas show they did on TV that is one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. It was Lou's turn to give unto Bud. There are other classics of comedy out there like Red Skelton, the Honeymooners, etc. |
