are the henery rifels any good? I have a friend that has a big boy in .44mag and on the outside it's a very beautiful gun. octagon barrel, brass receiver, smoooooth action and very nice wood. but how are the internals, how is the durability? I ask because I am thinking of getting another lever gun. thanks. |
website.lineone.net/~braithwaitej/mainsite/overview/guns/winchester.htm![]() Henry rifles were one of the first successful repeaters, feeding from a tubular magazine, it first became available at the start of the Civil War and soon became the most prized infantry weapon of that conflict. the Henry was also very well liked by the native American warriors, they liked the gold colored brass receiver and nick named it the "Yellow boy"

The Henry, the 1866, the 1873, and the 1876 all have a toggle link action. It is not as strong as the action on a modern lever gun. The 1886, 1894 , 1895, and others have a stronger action. However, for standard loads of .45 LC or .44-40, I dont think there is anything to worry about. A replica Henry is on my buy sometime in the future list. ETA: Didnt realize that he was talking about the Henry Big Boy... that is a different gun. I am not sure how that one holds up, though I have never heard anything bad about it. |
