The author of this article took Gabe Suarez's terrorist interdiction course.  The author totally bitch slapped Gabe in this article.  Basically called Gabe unsafe and unpratical.  The author went on to say that the lack of attention to safety was huge.  Infractions like lasering others in the class to picking up dropped mags on a hot range.  Further more all they practiced were head shots.  The author left the class after Gabe walked down range and let a student shoot five head shots at a paper target that he was standing next to.  The author said that Gabe stated this is how he maintains his "Warrior Edge".  That is fucked up.

How do you maintain your "Warrior Edge?"

I eat hot coals and sleep on razor wire...

Uh, how are you supposed to recover mags if you dont pick them up off the ground? Does this guy advocate a range going cold just to permit mag recovery?

No, you don't go cold.  But you don't recover mags from the deck until everyone is 'on safe and hanging'.

I read that article too, and I tend to believe the author.

Nothing wrong with only practicing head shots.  That is the quickest way to shut someone down.

As far as being lasered.  I am not a huge fan of having someone point their gun at me.

That's been my experience also. People bending over tend to go forward of the line. We always wait until the weapons are on safe and the range officer has given the command "let 'em hang"

I maintain mine by watching him and not laughing.

Gabe posted a reply to the article on Glock Talk in the Tactics and Training Forum.

I have never trained with the man and have no dog in the fight. But his response is there.

He's a criminal and a bozo.

I myself have done the "stand next to the target" stuff in classes... But, it isn't to keep a "warriors edge." It's to add stress to the shooter, not the person standing next to the target. There may be people standing next to your target in the real world (bystanders, wife, kids, etc.) and you best be ready for it. It's a experience/stress demonstration, not some fucking warrior's edge hooplah.

And you only do the exercise with competent shooters... Like guys you haven't missed the target once, all week. It's safe, you're not covering anyone with your muzzle... Shooting in itself is dangerous, hell unloading your gun is dangerous.

You'd actually be quite suprised at the level of stress generated if you have done the exercise...

DO NOT go out and try this with your shootin' buddy.

Check the SWAT forum.

Personally I was shocked.

Good advice.

I should have said your "average" shooting buddy... Most of the shooters I rub elbows with are great shots. My "shooting buddy," who I shoot with the most, is probably one of the worst shots I have come across... If I was going to a gunfight, I would not only not want him there, I would want him to run the other way. I'm still trying to fix him.

I am very disappointed with the entire 'tactical community' the last year or so.  For the record, I'm no Suarez fan.

I have seen so much backbiting, infighting, and general ratfuckery in the PMC, training, military and other communities in the last year it really makes me sick.  We devote more energy to tearing each other down than we do to making positive contributions.  Everyone has a little fiefdom that they defend, and if your resume doesn't reflect the right 'cool guy' stuff you're liable to be torn to shreds whether you have anything legitimate to offer or not.  On the other side, you have assholes who think they know shit from shinola because they once wore some MARPAT and bought a Kimber Warrior off the 'net.

What's my point?  I have no point, I guess.  I'm just frigging disgusted with everything, I think.

I've heard a lot of it too and I couldn't agree with you more... There are one or two instructors I went to last year who knew their shit, but their personal opinions were unprofessional, though their trainning was very professional. They actually insulted some people I hold in high respect.
You're getting more guys out there with current real world fights under their belt, they now think that their's is the only way, because they have the current experience and they did that experience their way. I somewhat agree and I somewhat don't.

Gabe is still a bozo and deserves the shit he gets... Hell, look at the fucking name of his class that is written up in SWAT... Are you serious ? That is plain old marketing and right up there with the secret special forces seal ninja fighting punch video.

Highlighted in red is another bee in my bonnet.  Guess what?  Napoleon's kitchen mule had been through a hundred campaigns, but at the end of the day, he was still just a mule.  Having been shot at and missed does not = instant credibility...it just means the other guy sucked worse than you did that particular day.  I'm just waiting for some 88M to come back and open a Tactical Truck Driving Academy and start insulting people on the net because he has scars from sand flea bites and they don't.

I don't permit anyone picking up anything they dropped on the range, mags, rounds etc, until everyone is safely holstered or long arms are safe and slung.

I also never have anyone standing downrange next to a target getting shot at. It is an accident waiting to happen.

And this is with guys who train together alot.

When you attend outside vendor training you are going to get students with all sorts of ability levels, students who have never worked together. And you are going to stand downrange next to a target during live fire? Plain stupidity, not warrior edge.
