My new job requires me to carry around a large ring of keys for various doors and locks.

What is the best way to label each key so I can quickly find the one I'm looking for?

Memorizing their position on the ring is one option but I probably won't be using them often enough to do it that way.

I HATE KEYS!! I was perfectly happy with my 3 keys on a lanyard that I normally carried.

Melt colored tape on them.

I guess the melting is to keep the tape from losing its stick over time?

Hm... I wonder if I can find some shrink tubing in different colors that would fit over the ends...

Yes, sir.  Just melt it enough so it conforms to the shape of the key grip.

I used to get those little round stickers and put one on the head of the key and one on the lock. Just add a number or letter and thar ya go.

They make different colored covers for most common keys and can be found at hardware stores. Also you can file a small notch or more on the body of the keys you use the most. Also you can paint the keys with different colors of nail polish and retouch up every month or so.

You can also group the keys for certain areas together on different rings so that you only need to have one color per set to let you know which set it is. If the set has keys that look alike, put a notch on one key, two on the next key, etc.

I have 3 schrade keys I use every day on the same keychain.
I drilled 1 hole in 1 key head and 2 holes in the other one.
I can tell them apart by touch now

1/8" metal stamps and code them

Have each key implanted with an RFID chip, and keep your RFID scanner on a neck chain.

This way, you can tell your keys apart and remain fashionable.

How about use an engraver and engrave a letter or number on it, this way they never rub off.
