I'm selling a small electronic product in quantities that have recently increased slightly beyond my ability to hand-build them.

It's time to find a contract manufacturer to:

1. Stuff and solder the PCBs at the very least, or
2. Ideally, test and integrate the completed PCBs into an enclosure, epoxy-encapsulate them, pack several hundred into each box for shipping, and drop-ship the boxes to my customers.

Does anyone have any experience dealing with contract electronic manufacturers?

check with the US Dept. of Commerce www.commerce.gov/

They can give you lists of all kinds of companies wanting to do things like this for you.

I'm an SMT Process Engineer for one.

I've spent a good share of my career working for CM's.

I interviewed at a place that did that about 8 years ago - turnkey PCBs and partial assemblies - shit like that.

Just shop around.  And get a patent or some other form of protection ($$$) so that nobody decides to do what you do, but faster and cheaper.

I think I'd rather hire my own crew - but that's a ton of work in itself.

For most people, setting up your own production line with equipment and staff and what not is not worth the effort. A small CM is the way to go.

I am fairly high up in the hierachy of the worlds largest CM.
