Anyone else Like the Deftones? I have been a fan since the first album and just picked up the B-Sides and Rarities set.

I am sure we will have a couple Old Man River types come in here and tell me that the only true singer/song writer was Johnny Cash but fuck that.

So here is my thread to the Deftones and anyone else who likes them needs to get the B-Sides!

I used to be really into them in high school. I had all there cd's and such, but i can no longer stomach there music. One day I put "white pony" in my cd player and I realized "wow this really isnt great at all".  I had a friend who offered to pay 10$ for all three cd's i should have taken him up on the offer before he shipped out to Ft. Bragg.

I love 'around the fur', it's in my cd player right now.  No matter how hard I try tho, I just can't make it thru 'white pony'.  That cd is terrible.  One good song.

I love their crushingly loud stage performances.  Also pretty cool is watching the usually stoic Chino Moreno freak out in the middle of a song, climb up the side stage PA and fling himself into the mosh pit.

I liked White Pony- still have it in my car actually.  I think people tend to overestimate the amount of good music that came out of the 90's (there really wasn't that much good hard rock; you've got Helmet, early Soundgarden - and the Deftones - that's about it).

They're one of the few bands that I'll go and see just out of habit, along with Bad Religion and Rollins Band, when they come around.  They always give it their all.

I am an "around the fur" fan too but agree that white pony was a little crappy.

You asked for it.....

From the great broadway musical Show Boat

OL' MAN RIVER
(Kern/Hammerstein II)

Here we all work 'long the Mississippi
Here we all work while the white folk play
Pullin' them boats from the dawn till sunset
Gettin' no rest till the judgment day

Don't look up and don't look down
You don't das make the boss man frown
Bend your knees and bow your head
And pull that rope until your dead

Let me go 'way from the Mississippi
Let me go 'way from the white man boss
Show me that stream called the River Jordan
That's the old stream that I long to cross.

Ol' Man River, that Ol' Man River
He don't say nothin', but he must know somethin'
He just keeps rollin', he keeps on rollin' along

He don't plant tatters, and he don't plant cotton
And them what plants em, are soon forgotten
But Ol' Man River, just keeps rollin' along

You and me, we sweat and strain
Body all achin' and racked with pain
Tote that barge and lift that bail
You get a little drunk and you lands in jail

I gets weary, and sick of trying
I'm tired of livin', but I'm scared of dyin'
But Ol' Man River, he just keeps rolin' along

This show was the first Broadway score ever to have a coherent plot and integrated songs. Based on Edna Ferber's novel of the same name, Showboat is a story that takes place over a period of 50 years looking into the lives of the Hawks family, their showboat troop of actors, and the Cotton Blossom floating theater. The play deals with such themes as mixed marriages, gambling, infidelity, illegitimacy.

First off, I tend not to get to personal on this site as its full of people who generally have not put alot of thought into there comments, Fast_Jimmy, you sir are one of the people I speak of, first off, Bands like Linkin Park Limp Bizkit (not that I like these bands personally, but they have had more succes then you have Im sure) etc wouldnt even be around if the Deftones hand pionered the use of turn tables in there method of forming music, secondly, I would like to say that from an artistic stand point, they have the creative ablity which has allowed them to stand apart from the smattering of other rap rock garbage out there, the fact that you indeed linked similarites between green day and the Deftones makes me wonder if you have ever really heard there stuff, if at all, or if your just one of the other "ARFCOM arm chair commandos" who fits into this thread
www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=130&t=399940

Anyways, sorry but I felt the need to stick up for the Deftones, since you obviously just felt like contribbuting nonsense to the thread, if you had said In my humble opinion after your post, I would have left you alone, but the fact that you seemingly believe your rather idiotic comment, I am just going to have to light into you. Sorry, and for the record, I have all the Deftones albums, Including the newest B sides, I must say, I personally am a fan of there first 2 albums, but the last 2 (not including this B sides, white pony and the self titled, are mere branchings out and an attempt to express and try new methods) many artists do this, take your pick, from Aerosmith to Billy Joel. I dont usually read into the general discussion forums because of crap replies like the one quoted above, and well its because its just for some num skull to increase his post count. Ive said my peace, go ahead, wana debate the Deftones, bring it on, Im not going to to a top 50 law school because of lack of debate skills...

oh and you want memorable songs
well take your pick, ones selected for movies....

"my own summer"
featured in a movie you prolly watch each nite as you wish you could be Neo and save the fucking matrix you live in...aka the internet. Dip Shit

"Change"

Featured in a movie by an actor I dont like, Sandler (little nicky), but yet, he even played a role in picking out the soundtrack, hmmm

The Deftones were asked to be on the Summer Sanatarium tour 2003, with the linkes of great bands like Metallica...hmm I dont see Green Day in there...

Memorable hits...maybe your head is stuck in tune to the crappy rap stations that are littered all over by clear channel and radio one, thank god for itunes radio play lists and #47 squizz on XFm satelite radio.

Ok personal Deftones favs

"Inhabia"
"Passanger"
"Knife prty"
"No Ordinary love"
"needles and pins"

I got Adrenaline when I was younger.  Still like it.. not really my type of thing anymore, but that's one of the bands that made it through my 'switch' to hardcore and metal.

Adrenaline has a type of 'atmosphere' to it I guess.  I dunno.  I dig that cd from time to time.. and one song from Around The Fur.  Otherwise, not much of a fan.

Meh, they are ok. I was suppose to see them on summer sanatarium in 2003 as an opener but one of them was sick and they didn't perform.

The Deftones are great. You should check out Team Sleep, Chino Moreno's side band. Kick ass stuff.
