It is my primary source of food if this hurricane ousts my power.
10/23/2005 11:23:26 AM EDT
[#2]

10/23/2005 11:23:30 AM EDT
[#3]
Maruchan Instant Lunches.

Just a crying shame they have so much damned SALT!
10/23/2005 11:23:38 AM EDT
[#4]
I like the Lipton noodle products better.
10/23/2005 11:23:49 AM EDT
[#5]
Just add hot sauce and it's good stuff.
10/23/2005 11:24:47 AM EDT

i used to practically live on ramen, but then I became more health conscious.  It is some damn good stuff though.  I havent eaten any in quite a while, but i always got the stash just in case.
10/23/2005 11:26:21 AM EDT
[#7]
I like the hot, spicy stuff in the packages that I can't read the writing on...

Those are damned good... really hard to go from ramen to maruchan and back... I find myself putting garlic salt (heavily) on ramen.
10/23/2005 11:28:02 AM EDT
[#9]
Eh.
10/23/2005 11:32:38 AM EDT

Brings back memories of Kunsan, ROK.

Shin ramen, bull kogi, american cheese slice (or 2), and hot sauce. Food of the gawds!
10/23/2005 11:36:46 AM EDT
[#12]
basically lived on it for several years while in college.

Now, its SHTF only food.
10/23/2005 11:39:24 AM EDT
[#13]
Ambrosia for the college-bodied.

Or as elderly democrats say: hey, it's better than dog food!
10/23/2005 11:41:39 AM EDT
[#14]
Which is ramen again, the fried noodles?
10/23/2005 11:42:33 AM EDT
[#15]
Get the chinese and taiwanese brands. MUCH better than the Maruchan stuff.
10/23/2005 11:44:16 AM EDT
[#16]
SHTF only.  I have better things to eat.
10/23/2005 11:52:55 AM EDT
[#17]
you have no f'in idea how much of that shit I have from rita, and canned water(nasty), I also have so much spam and ranch style beans I could live on that for a year, and since I'm in college I might have to
10/23/2005 11:59:42 AM EDT
[#18]
I only buy the chicken flavor, since they all pretty much taste like chicken anyway.
10/23/2005 2:19:52 PM EDT
[#19]
The real way to eat that stuff is by trading "Adjima" the old korean lady inside your BN perimeter one GI MRE for a chicken cheese Ramen, a coke, and a moon pie...
10/23/2005 2:25:12 PM EDT
[#20]
its got lots of salt...I like that
10/23/2005 2:31:03 PM EDT
[#21]
Im in college.

Do they make a diffrent kind of food product?
10/23/2005 2:37:22 PM EDT
[#22]
Supplemented during extended field exercises and thats about it, I find it doesnt have any energy in it for me, use mostly dried fish instead.
10/23/2005 2:39:55 PM EDT
[#23]
Eating ramen right now actually.
10/23/2005 2:42:12 PM EDT

Ramen is the Host to us Pastafarians.

We only eat it on Sundays!

We interupt this thread to bring you an important message....

Five choice polls do not work on ARFCOM

...we now return you to your regularly scheduled Tom foolery.

I like Ramen, but I don't eat it that often.

[#26]
Buy it cheap, stack it deep.  I buy it to save for a rainy day and the wife keeps getting into the stocks.  I guess that will just keep it fresh.  In a SHTF situation I think you may want a little salt in your diet.
10/23/2005 2:56:33 PM EDT
[#27]
At a dime a pac you can't get much cheaper food.  And it goes with practically everything.

I don't buy MREs or Mountain House.  Too much trouble to rotate that stuff.  Ramen and cases of the regular foods we eat every day makes a lot more sense.
10/23/2005 3:03:24 PM EDT
[#28]
I have dozens of cases of various styles in my house, I eat it soemtimes.  Mainly it is emergency rats cause I can eat it uncooked and drink water on a march or whatever

Shrimp Flavored in the styrofoam container...my daughter loves it too...My Dad got me started eating Ramen when he came back from Korea in the 70's...Funny...he wanted the kids to walk up and down his back a lot too....
10/23/2005 3:28:37 PM EDT
[#30]
might eat some right now. and throw some spam in it
10/23/2005 3:29:05 PM EDT

I use the noodles for a peanut chicken dish I make.

Big +1

Spoken like a true "Turtle" You know what I mean Copperhead ?

Korean Nom Shim Hot and spicy with chicken and cheese after a few O.B. beers. Mmmmm .

Those were the days.

I don't like to do eat my emergency stash of food.  It is all too easy to get down to zero, and then say "oh I've got to get some more," and in the mean time some SHTF-scene occurs and "mother Hubbard went to the cupboard, and the cupboard was bare."

i actually eat it off and on because its tastee and easy and quick.

but all this stuff about shtf. is it something that would keep you going? wouldna rice and beans be better. i mean dried beans, rice etc.

i've wondered about that. you read the old stories about miners going into alaska carried lots of dried goods, beans, flour, sugar and coffee. and survived off of it for a year or so. seems like if you really are into shtf you would stockpile that kind of stuff, along with lots of canned goods since its a lot cheaper than the mountain house stuff...

"shin ramen"  pronounced sheen-ramyun in korean.

this is the best.  some american mega-grocers stock it.  don't forget a side of kimchi while you are eating it.

That's the shiznit right there.  I've got a case of it that I brought with me during the move to VA...just in case they didn't have any here.  Luckily for me, there are 4 Asian grocery stores around me that carry it

What I do is this: slice some pork or beef (the cheap cuts will do) really thin, along with some napa cabbage, and while the Shin Ramyun is boiling add the meat and vegges and the seasonings.  MMMMM

More of it than we should sometimes. My daughter likes it especially after a trip to the orthodontist. I've tried most of the add on's mentioned here and you can actually make a pretty decent meal of them.

Frozen shrimp added and cooked for the last two minutes, and at the end add an egg, some Rooster sauce, and a dash of Soy sauce and your good to go.

Lots of carbs for energy.

Kill a small mammal for a tasty side dish.

For all you guys using it for SHTF stock: Don't you worry about having clean WATER for it?

It's the only reason I've opted for MRE's for now.
Waiting for this to get moved to the Survival Forum.

I wasnt asking for SHTF types, thats kinda obvious.

I wanted to ask everyone, kinda see the general concensus.

At 10 cents a pop they were a staple food in college.  Eventually I burned out on them, but have come back to eating them once in awhile when I need a quick snack.

Always have some in my locker at work.  Good 3AM munchie food.

Keep some around the house too.  Don't eat it too often there though.  Isn't really good for my wife as she has high blood pressure.  Too much salt.

I like plain chicken, creamy chicken.  If I can find it Sapporo Ichiban chicken or regular flavor.

Tried it once.  Good but salty as hell.

I'm half korean, and been eating this forever!  This is the tastiest brand by far, could never stand the thinly flavored japanese versions.

Also, try dropping a raw egg into the pot while cooking!  yummy...

Also, leftover T-bone steak goes suprisingly well with it...

I lived on that stuff in my early twentys. I used to add canned veggies for nutritional value.
