I've heard of these referred to as man purses, etc., but am curious as to whether or not anyone has bought one and what their impressions are?

I'm thinking of buying one for day hiking and/or travel, but want to know how well it's made, is it large enough to carry a medium size pistol (namely USP compact), is it functional (are the pockets large enough to serve a purpose and are there enough of them)?

I'm secure enough to carry around a "murse" as long as it serves its purpose and does so well.

Opinions?  Observations?  (Besides the fact that they are "pricey")

I figured since I had just replied to it again I'd post it.

I like mine, haven't used it much though.

this is kinda what i figured...I'm assuming that it's one of those things you're glad you have when they're necessary, but the majority of the time it isn't being used (kinda like a CCW).

I have one and I love it.  I carry my camera, a pistol, a bottle of water... works great and doesn't wear heavily on you.

I have the fatboy pack , which I like very much . There's plenty of room for what you would carry for a day hike . Comfortable to wear and made to take a beating . It has 11 pockets and 8 slip in type holders . The belt is 2" with a sliding shoulder pad . I paid $59 for it at a show and it's worth it IMO.  My Kimber compact fits perfect in one of the main pocket's smaller pocket's. Hope this helps you.

I've been tempted to take mine to work, but I've only been there a month, and it's a temp job that I really hope will either get extended or that I'll get hired directly. So I don't want to do anything that people might consider "strange"
I will be taking it to the gun show tomorrow though

It isn't bad.  It would have been designed a lot better if they put a nalgene sized pouch on the outside.  After you put a decent water bottle in there you've run out of most of the room.

Great for gadget people, tons of seperate pouches.

If you are looking for a good day pack for hiking, look at the Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon.  It's a small pack that is very comfortable and has a lot of usable space for gear & water.  Also works well as a range bag. Price is around $80.00

ETA:  Way less gay too.

Do you want the S-type or the normal type for a right-handed person and their pistol? And who are the big online retailers for Maxpedition? Amazon only has the fatboy, not the jumbo and no sign of the holster or mag carriers.

Why not use a carabeener to attack the Nalgene to the outside? ETA: The Jumbo holds a Nalgene on the outside.

I bought mine from SKD tactical off this site.  If you want extra crap on it, there are molle gear attachments on it.  I try to travel as light as possible though.

I've seen the nalgene cap retention straps break before,  and I'd rather it doesn't bounce around.  Also, I kind of like the sleeves that gregory uses on their buttpacks as they insulate the bottle a bit.
