my wife buys blueberry bread at costco. I love the stuff. I can eat half a loaf in one sitting. But at 5 bucks a loaf its pretty expensive.

So I told my wife I want to make my own. I see tons of breadmaking machines at the Goodwill.

Question for those that have usedthe machines.

is it dump the ingredients in and turn on and forget?

Hows the resulting bread compared to store bought?

Dump the ingredients and forget it... some of the BEST bread ever.

Not as good as mom's... but pretty good FWIW.

And it's a damn sight cheaper than $5...

Dump and forget. The machines mix it automatically. They make pretty good bread

We use ours all the time.  Get one with a timer.  You can put the ingredients in so that they won't mix.  Set it to come on so your bread comes out just before dinner or whatever.  Pretty good bread.  Made from scratch ingredients tastes better than the box mixes.

They're cheap, buy new.

I love them, my parents had one.  I'll pick one up one of these days...but for now, I make do with making Beer Bread once in a while.  (Easiest bread recipe ever...)

Any suggestions on brand and model number?  I would love to get one that mixes as well as bakes.

I  know a lot of people around here hate Consumer Reports, but it would be a useful resource to look at.

Most libraries have CR going back several years.  Ask for the current copy, look in the back at the index to see when bread machines were last reviewed.
