Why dont they ever use flame throwers on the buggers?  You would think it would take are of the destroying the bodies once they are no longer moving.

They did in the DOTD documentary.

ETA: It was gas pump.

Well, if you have to engage at very close range, you are likely to end up setting your avenue of escape on fire, besides....it's much more fun to shoot 'em in the head.

And besides, if they're almost on top of you... you're going to want something faster than flames.

Bad idea. They tried that in the lab back in the eighties. It caused the zombie virus to mutate into a form that could only be combated with special suppositories.

Slow to kill, ignites defensive fortifications (difficult to control), flaming zombie bear hugs very bad, clean burn through to brain tissue not guaranteed. [I have seen car fires with gleaming white skull, yet intestines (which pop through krispy black shell of corpse when cold water hits body) are pink, and while steaming, are superficially undamaged...go figure.]

They did burn bodies in the original NotLD.

ETA: "and while steaming" (for Steve)

Last weekend I saw "Return of the Living Dead: Nercropolis" and the Zombie gas got on a Possum a couple of bums were cookin on a fire, and the damn thing came alive and bit em even after it was well done.

That's why.

I have a Zombie question myself now that you mention 'em. If shooting them in the head is such common knowledge, why does everyone still insist on shooting them in the gut all the time?

Wait a minute...I have the answer! BECAUSE IT'S A B-RATED MOVIE WITH STUPID CHARACTERS!!!! lol!

Ineffective in most situations.

The virus automates dead muscle tissue.  Pain receptors no longer work.  The Brain must be rendered inoperable to disable a zombie.

While it would be funny as hell to burn groups of zombies just to watch them walk around on fire, It takes time for a flame to burn its way through the skull.

Flame throwers on zombies is great for a good time, but not so great when you need a bunch of zombies down immediately.

Read the handbook.

Damn I didnt know there was a handbook.

I also question the scientific validity of some of the claims.  Flames would be the best from an infection point of view.  Because it would destroy the contagions and you wouldnt get any of the nasty blood on you.

For example if you had your mouth open and your buddy caps one and splatter gets into your mouth.  Isnt that bad as a bite?

Not to mention why arent they using shotguns more?  The one black cop was using a 12 gauge and was blowing heads off with great effect.

The Zombie Guide had examples of flaming zombies burning up human fortifications since they can walk around while burning.

I still like the idea but I think it would only work in certain scenarios. I wonder if the new model thinking zombies would avoid the fire.

Because shotguns are close range weapons, and (as with all hostiles) it's best to keep them as far away as possible.

But most of the time it is close range and the zombies are already behind the wire and on top of you.

What I like to see and havent yet is a MINI-GUN being used to pulverize any zombies. Zombie hamburger would be impressive.
