I stopped by Academy today, and on the price tags for their ammunition feeding devices, they're listed as "clips."   I stopped an associate and asked where they kept their magazines, but he didn't get the joke.

While I was at the new Sportsman's Warehouse, I asked the associate that helped me out with my 1911 if they had some extra magazines in back.  When he came back, he told me there were no extra clips.

Some people...

I corrected my brother in law last weekend, who wanted to buy more clips for his new M4.  I gave up after the third reprimand.

And some people still refer to the black stuff in a pencil as lead.  Get over it as long as you know better.

It's hard to put the word "magazine" in a rap song.

Real dope-ass gangstas only use clips, yo.

What about the en bloc clips for the M1 garands? Would you complain about my choice of words when it comes to those ammunition feeding devices?

Sure - and ammo can also be loaded on stripper clips.  Those are both correct uses of the term.

What irritates a lot of purists/anal-retentive folk is the use of "clip" to refer to what should correctly be referred to as a magazine.

I care a little, but not a lot.

I know these are magazines but I want to call them clips dammit I can't help it, all my hunter relatives say clip and I think it is contagious.

I have clips and mags for my AK.

Clips can further be divided into en-bloc and stripper.

And we love strippers!!!!

a CLIP is a loading aid, it is used to assist in the loading of a gun's fixed magazine or detachable magazine
*except the M1 Garand

Does this mean my LULA is a clip??

When my brother was in training with the NCSHP, if someone referred to a magazine as a clip, it was followed by rapid bipedal locomotion.

There is always a huge booth at the Nations Gunshow in the far corner with CLIP CLIPS CLIPS all over their sign, and thay have the largest assortment of MAGAZINES in the show.  I give them dirty looks every time, and I will NOT buy from them.

I'd call them clips too with those metrosexual pink tipped bullets.

Difference between clip and magazine:

Magazine has self-contained feedramp and spring.  --ETA:  Shotgun tubes are "magazines", etc.

22LR, esp Marlin, are not affected by this as they advertise what is technically a magazine as "clips"

I know.. I need a better camera... it's in the works.

I corrected my professor about this last week. Hes a retired (medical) LEO with 20 years on the force and he kept calling handgun magazines "clips"

I asked where I could get a M1 Garand handgun model.

Last funshow had a booth set up selling mags where all the signs and labels referred to clips. Not one references to magazines. Then again, the dude in charge of the both could only speak a handful of words of broken English...

i find it to be rather irratating and refuse to purchase any magazine/firearm that has the label of clip. my local fun store is bad about it though.

example: seen on handgun tag

sig 226
stock # xxxxxxx
cal. 9mm
tritium sights
3 hi-cap clips

arrgh!

Should that be added to the CoC?

No references to "clip" or "magazine" allowed.  All "tech talk" needs to use the term "bullet holder thingies".
