So, I was lifting weights the other day and I jerked instead of pulled (no wisecracks ), and that evening I developed a pain in my right inner thigh. Now it spread to my groin and it is painful to walk.Pulled groin, right? What do I do? Ice? Heating pad? Pull out a porn video and jerk? |
Most likely it is too late for ice. The heat may help to loosen it up. In my short stint playing college football I tore my groin so severely, actually it was several tears, that the blood from the tear was going down past my knee. The school doc prescribed me Ibuprofen and muscle relaxers. By the way depending on how bad the tear is and your activity since the tear it could take weeks to get over.

+1.. And next time, remember... 'A stretched groin is a happy groin' The 'groin stretch seated' (or standing, if you so preferr) is your friend, man... |

Yeah, I blew it. I have this home gym thing. I was doing lat pulldowns, which because of this gym, you have to do laying on your stomach. You lock your feet as best you can and pull the weight towards you. I was using too much weight, so towards the end of my set I jerked instead of pulled. That night I got the pain in my right inner thigh, and now my nut muscles hurt. This sucks. I have a ton of ibuprofen and muscle relaxors left over from when I hurt my back last year. Tonight it's beer and Flexeril.

| Use ice for sprains (not breaks), bruising and swelling, it constricts blood vessels to stop "internal bleeding", heat for sore and strained muscles and tendons after any swelling goes down, vasodilates blood vessels to promote circulation to "clean out" injury, so for you use heat... |

I have that problem right groin, re-acurring injury. The last time, It hurt for several hours, standing, sitting was real bitch. I hate getitng older, seems I dont heal up as fast as I did when I was 20. I just take it easy for a day or so, and if I am carefull I will get better. Till the next time.... |

Despite popular belief, many newer studies with track and field athletes (they might not be body builders, but they sure like to pull things) show that you really should not heat things until about 2 weeks afterwards unless you have a vital competition you cannot miss. This is because as the muscle expands it can cause the tear to get worse by pulling the muscle further apart. Ice is indeed best for a groin, and in a week or two start with some very light stretching. A groin is something you want totally healed before you continue with your exercises. PM me if you want more help/detailed advice. I am not a doctor, but I am getting a degree with an emphasis on coaching track and field. -Ben |

I had a groin pull once, and it is nothing to joke at. Use ice until the swelling goes down, and then get with the heat. Mine never healed 100%, and sometime too much lifting or yard work will cause it to twinge. Now I take no chances. Better go see the doctor, in case you tore something. |

I'll agree with the others that it's most likely a hernia. If it was a groin pull, wouldn't it be more instant, instead of starting to hurt later? I had a similar problem when I was in college, but couldn't make it to the doctor for a few days. By the time I got there, it was mostly gone away, and the doctor just said I overworked it(Grand Canyon) and should take it easy for a little bit. And that I would be fine. Well it's been FIVE years and it still bothers me. I might be getting it checked out this spring, probably get surgery. I can't really play any sports, and pretty much anything that resembles climbing stairs I have to be pretty careful. Sometimes it really sucks when I go hiking, but as long as I keep moving it's bearable. |
