Nope. "Poverty breeds crime" is an old liberal argument. Never held water, never will hold water (pun intended).

That said, yes, you'll hear cries for a "living wage" requirement in New Orleans soon.

NOPD currently has two ex-officers on death row for free lance murders for drug delivery. Approximately 6 years ago NO very nearly became only the second PD in the Nation overtaken and run by the FBI because of the out of control corruption. On the other hand, on duty Officers are entitled to (2) beers or (1) mixed drink while working their shift.

The pay is always a major factor. With a low payscale, recruitment of squared away folks is almost impossible. Ever heard of "you get what you pay for"?

I make more than double that AFTER taxes just by doing mild construction work.......

those cops are being seriously screwed over

I noticed today that my favorite pizza joint is hiring full time delivery drivers at $12/hr. Assumming an 8 hour day and tips, they are going to make about as much as a newly hired NOPD cop. Nice.

This explains a number of things.
