Actually we do.

Most of our contribution to the actual war in Iraq was naval, including at least one submarine that was able to go in closer to the coast (near Basra) to intercept communications - because they are apparently slightly smaller the the Brit and US ones.   They're not GREAT submarines (being diesel and all), but they are okay.

callgood the Sirius Patrol is essentially establishing/confirming Danish soverignty over Greenland with their sled patrols - and they are also checking for any "enemy" (or unauthorized) installations (like military suveillance equipment, weather stations, etc. etc.).  For one thing, Greenland is crucial to missile defence and early warning - and so you don't want the wrong guys setting up their equipment there - after all, it is a giant empty wasteland (something like three times the size of Texas).

Of course, during the summer it is sunlight 24/7, and they patrol with boats along the coast (when the ice breaks up).  The Sirius Patrol is a very odd and unique unit, that's for sure.  The people I met who served in it were very quiet people.

Uh oh, The canadians do the same thing in the arctic. Except they use Enfields! Becareful they have the magazine capacity advantage!
