I don't know at what price I would make changes.  I'm moving to TX next week, and I already plan to start using biodiesel, so maybe I'm already at that point.  It's not so much about saving money, I just want to buy less imported oil.  I think price will be about the same.

How about Americans organize and do something about the gas price ripoff?
We just suck it up as the gas co.'s enjoy record profits.
Oh yea, free enterprise.

Imagine a weekly boycott of driving.  Every monday, nobody goes anywhere.  Not only would we reduce demand on fuel, but we wouldn't be at work.  We wouldn't go grocery shopping.  We wouldn't go out to eat.

That would command some attention. ;)   The only part of the economy not getting shut down for a day is the internet.  Not that I think people would do this.

Buy domestically produced oil instead then.  We don't import 100% of our oil you know

$2.54/9 a gallon for go juice here, I won't be makin' any unnecessary trips. I'll let UPS/FED-X deliever before I drive to Knoxville or Nashville for stuff I may need, it'd be cheaper.  I wish they'd get those damned fuel cells going.

I already have changed!  Being in outside sales, I drive ALOT, and at the current $2.67/ gallon, I have resorted to calling customers and only driving to see them when necessary.  In addition, the prices I quote have an extra % built in for my commision to make up for the difference in my mileage check and the ACTUAL cost of driving.

I'm making slight mods.  I drive a 4.7L Dakota Quad Cab 4X4

I take the shortest route to work, even if it means taking on more traffic.
I am gentler accelerating, and coast as much as possible in city driving.
I have slowed from 75 to 65 on freeways, and try to go with the flow as much as possible instead of forcing my way faster than anyone else.

The biggest change will come when we buy my wife's new car within the next couple of months.  Most likely it will be a VW Passat TDI wagon.  I will NOT put her and my daughter in some jap tin can death trap.

Once she gets her Passat, I will drive her old Golf back and forth to work and park the truck until it is absolutely necessary to drive it.

unfortunately, as a student living off drill pay and a stipend, there isn't a lot of money left over.  I can't do much to change my driving habits either.

I've been in construction most of 20 years now.  This means I have to drive a truck or SUV to pack tools.  I'm seriously looking at changing careers to one where I can bike to work.  The pay just isn't increasing to match the cost of working.

Bought a Prius for my 100 mile per day commute.  Getting 46 to 48 MPG. Parked the 12 passenger GMC Savannah (11 MPG)

I will be buying domestically produced oil... domestically produced soy oil. ;)

But being serious, where I can get diesel made from domestic oil?  As far as I know, there's so much buying/selling/mixing going on that it's impossible.  It would be great to know where people could get fuel from domestic oil.

If that is the case, why are these companies charging the same amount as every other gas retailer? I guess we should be boycotting the above companies for ripping us off even more than the companies that do buy foriegn oil, no?

That's pretty much a general strike.  Don't think we've ever had one in the US.

BECAUSE THE PRICE OF THEIR COMMODITY IS SET BY THE WORLD OIL MARKET!

Holy crap!

If nobody works, then nobody gets paid.  For the most part, the US may be one of the few populations in the developed world where the socialists can't stop a company for firing employees that just decide to "not show up" for a week.

Do you really think some guy making 13.50 an hour is going to say, "Hey!  Gas costs too much, so I am going to skip work.  Not earning money for gas will show those bastards!"

Maybe they should work overtime instead.
