I took this fellow who has lived in Berkeley, CA since immigrating from Russia ten years ago (he also went to Berkeley) shooting today. He had never been to a range before and had never shot anything more than a pellet gun. That being said, he did pretty well. I think part of it was that I let him shoot my Sig, but he behaved decently. He did make a funny expression looking at the bumper stickers in the parking lot. He recited sarcastically "Support the troops, support the president, support the country" off of a pickup truck. I keep my mouth relatively shut around him because he is more amusing when he does not know how stupid he is. I suppose now that I have the gun bug under his skin I can start to make him question his other political stances. I have a feeling that his politics don't exactly support RKBA. I try to take at least one new person shooting every month. I have done this successfully for the past two years. The more liberal and uneducated the better. Some of them turn into real shooting enthusiasts. On the other hand I did meet some real idiots at the range today. Some real funny looking white folks came in and they were dressed like really rich people dress when they are trying to look like their cousins from the trailer park. This one fellow was opining about how much he wants a good carry piece in .45 when he gets his CHL. I had already finished and was standing outside the range near the counter but I remembered I had one loaded magazine for my Glock 30. I offered to let him take it and shoot a few rounds to see how he liked it. The dumbass says "Thanks" while taking the magazine and gun from me and proceeds to slam it in while pointing the gun straight up in the air. I started yelling at him and he took it out. At least the Russian behaved himself. |
