I decided to try to see if contacts were for me and today I finally got to try....it sucks. Cnat keep my eye open. Anybody else with contacts have this problem? How did you get over it. I'm sick of glasses and need some advise. Thanks, Tyler |

If you just got them then start out only wearing them for a few hours a day and build up. I have had contact for over 15 years now and hate wearing glasses and am to broke to get laser surgery. Short periods of time until your eyes are used to them. BTW what kind are you wearing? Hard or soft? I can't wear hard and love the soft contacts. Get the disposable extended wear as they allow more oxygen to your eyes. |
SGAT1r5 is right. Give it a week. I got my eyes checked and I'm a -5.0 in both eyes. Before I was ONLY a -4.5. Now I can see targets in better clarity though, and I can calso see much better. Ben |

I am 33, I have had contacts since I was 15... have only lost 4-5 and that was 8 years in the Marines as well. I have had nothing but good luck with them. I remember having to be a tough fit for contacts. As I am older now and kids/ etc..I am looking more and more at lasik so when things go bump in the night I am not fumbling for my glasses ( I am 20/380 with no correction ).Good luck. |

It took me forever to be able to touch my eyeballs, but once the contacts were on the eyes adjusted very quickly. Short of getting laser surgery (which can cause permanent damage), I think contacts are a big step up from normal glasses. With normal glasses you cannot wear cool sunglasses that have the REAL treated optics and the nice frames. if you get polycarbonate glasses that are tinted and coated, it's not the same as the nice ANSI Z87 frames with polarized, tinted, reflective lenses on the good sunglasses that get the job done. Did you make sure the contacts aren't inverted? Look for the beveled edge. The contact should look like a PERFECT cup with the tip of the exterior on your index finger. Bulge your eyes (if you can), if it feels funny then the contacts are inverted. I've been wearing them for about 7-8 years. Sometimes the outer diameter is too small for your eye. There's the power, base curve, and OD. Some manufacturers only produce a certain OD, while others make slightly larger ODs that cover the eye better. |
| I got some Corneal Moulding contacts from my eye doctor. I only wear them at night every other night. I went from 20/100 to 20/15. In addition, for unknown reasons, I get a more restful sleep. |
That is the reason they request you not wear contacts for like a week before going to MEPS, some super secret squirrel flight surgeon believes the standard contacts will flatten the cornea a bit and cause your vision to appear "better" under the refractometer. I bet that today at MEPS, they will overlook 99% of the small "things" that would normally disqualify a potential OCS candidate or enlistee. |
That's cool. I get chewed out all the time from my optomologist for sleeping with my eyes open [presumably]. I'll have to check this site out. I would recommend lots of saline solution for the contacts. Patty |

| have astigmatism so started with hard ones for over 2 years, they sucked but made my vision perfect. Then started with soft, only got one pair a year and had to do enyzmes and crap. Now I got soft ones I toss out after 2 weeks. Beats wearing glasses. If my eyes dry out the contacts make them itchy so I just wear glasses. |
I just picked that site since it has a succinct definition. I must buy a specific brand of contact cleaner since there's a higher risk of eye infection with these things. The great thing is that the first day after wearing I'm 20/15; second day, 20/20, and third about 20/40 so I really only need to wear them twice a week. |

I wear gas/perms (hard contacts). For the first two weeks I went insane. All I could think was, "THERE'S SOMETHING IN MY EYES! GET IT OUT! GET IT OUT! GET IT OUT!" After a couple weeks, my eyelids got used to the contacts and I could make it through the day without trying to claw my eyes out. I carried my contacts case and cleaning stuff with me so that I could take out my contacts at the office if they got to be too much. |

If they are uncomfortable now they will only get worse, not better. You can try asking your doctor to prescribe a different brand. I hate contacts, I used to wear them in high school but now I can't stand them at all. It's not that I have a problem with touching my eyes, the problem is that they make my eyes feel like shit 100% of the time (itchy, sticky, blood-shot, etc). As for the guy who said you can't get good prescription sunglassses, you are 100% incorrect. My prescription sunglasses are ANSI safety-grade polycarbonate lenses (the kind that can stop a .22) and are double anti-reflective, scratch-resistant, and polarized with real nice frames. The only kinds of sunglasses you can't get with a prescription are the wrap-around kinds. |
| Make sure they're fitted properly. I wear AcuVue Advance and they're more comfortable than the AcuVue 2 s that I used to wear. I just started wearing contacts 2 years ago. About 10yrs ago I tried contacts and couldn't stand them. I'm also too broke for Lasik at this time but I do want it. |

I had contacts in college some 20 years ago..wore them for a number of years and loved em. Got away from them for some reason and started wearing them again a couple years ago. Will never be without them if I can now. They have improved quite a bit. However, mine never HURT like what you describe. There must be something else wrong. My eyes would get tired after a couple hours and I gradually built back up the strength to wear them all day. The only time mine hurt is when there is like a foreign object on them, they have a tear, in backwards, etc.... in other words, something is wrong with yours and surprised your "fitter" didn't know it. Best feeling with contacts is going out in the rain and not having to worry about drops getting all over your glasses so you can't see....oh..and being able to wear cool sunglasses without having a prescription or 'snap-ons'. Yeah you can. They're called Oakleys and will cost you a fricken arm and a leg and then some! ![]() I just started wearing contacts about a year ago. Only wear them on the weekends though because since I work in a dusty environment and am always getting crap in my eyes and rubbing them, I don't want to make things worse by imbedding more shit in there. Contacts sure do help when shooting. No more pushing my damn glasses up all the time or looking over the lenses when trying to look through a scope. And I can wear my cheaper Oakleys. |

been wearing them for 12 years. At first they were a pain took 45 min to put in eyes, etc. Was also very cautious hated to get eyes wet,go in the dirt with them,or anything that could lose them. Now i put them in at 5 am and do whatever dont even know i have them on.Go in the water, waterski, boat(just dont do it at 130 mph),go to the sand dunes and ride, etc. Just got a new pair but a different brand might go back and get the old brand i had going to give it a couple of weeks first As for surgery i have thought abou it but then think i only have one set of eyes aint all that confident in vision correction heard of a few probs in the long run |
