stopped by today to kill some time waiting on someone and saw the strangest thing i have ever seen. the typical walmart greeter had been replaced by a handicapped girl. No big thing they usually hire the handicapped and i think that is a good thing. There was one weird exception. she was in what appeared to be a wheelchair type bed semi reclined comlete with oxygen and an IV. along side her were 2 helthcare workers <appeared to be state employees> monitoring her. In her lap was a small box with a button. as people walked by she would struggle to press the button and the box would say "welcome to walmart". i am all for giving the handicap a chance, but damn this poor girl appeared to be one step from death. I've never seen anyone on IV therapy and O2 in the workplace before. Kinda startled me. I really had to wonder if walmart was paying this poor girl enough to justify having her out WITH medical staff on the job. |

That is weird. I applaud her for wanting to work, but I think it's safe to say that she can qualify for full disability, assuming this condition is permanant. I have no problem with my taxpayer dollars taking care of the disabled who can't reasonably work. And if the condition isn't permanant, then it sounds like she needs to be in a hospital. But hey, props for wanting to get out there and be productive! |
you get that and a rubbermaid coffin made in china. you get a chinese honor guard as well. |
Apparently you aren't aware that up until a few years ago, many major corporations in the US took out life policies on their employees, many times without the employees knowledge. This process ended after 9/11 when the policy came to light and many companies were sued. The Corp. has no INSURABLE INTEREST in a rank and file employee. There is a big difference if Donald Trump/CEO dies and if the doorman at the Trump Plaza (employee) dies. Corporations for years were cashing in on the deaths of employees. Walmart was a huge proponent of this practice. |
Tax credit. You are paying for the staff and the business gets the tax break. On the plus side it usually decreases their SDI benefits, and over all helps their medical condition. So there is some positive to it. Wal*Mart and other business often also get tax credits for hiring people off welfare. Sgat1r5 |

Where's the question? |
Hey Sgat1r5, I know I am new and all, so explain, what's antburner? hanks Travis |
good point ![]() i guess the question is should this girl have been there with her oxygen, iv and nurses. |
She must want to be there. I don't think anyone is forcing her to work. It gets her out of the house and is something different to break up her day. I bet she is happy to go out and work and do something different than sitting there and watching the wall all day. |

F**k Wal-Mart
