Turtle was floating in a pond trying to bite the dogs and kids. It must have been sick or injured because it was just floating there in the middle of the day. Weeks before when we saw it, it would swim away and disappear. About 16 inches long and heavy as hell. 3 hits from a Bushy M4 with 193s and it was incapacitated but not dead. There was no blood and just real little holes that I could see. Only some very small amount of blood from its mouth. Three more at point blank finally killed it. The visiting Buckeyes wanted to eat it but due to its weird behavior its probably wasnt a good idea. So we just buried it.

PICs to follow.

Snapping turtles (and any reptile for that matter) are tough.

As a kid, I remember shooting a snapper in my pond and even after 5 hits with a .22, the next day I walked up to it on shore to bury it, and it turned it's head up at me as I approached.

From my understanding they hiss and are very aggressive on land and run away in water.  This one was definitely FUBAR because it just sat there and tried only to snap if the dog got real close.  But not very active nor did it have the normal behavior of a wild animal.
