They're basically townships in that they control their own small claims courts and schools systems. The Indianapolis Public School system is in meltdown. Estimates for high school grads range from 2/3rds of high school seniors to 1/3rd. People who know say it's closer to 1/3rd. |
+1 Use Pittsburgh for an example when trying to give people in Indy a heads up as to what happens when an out of control mayor sells out his taxpayers to suck up to sports teams. We had a 30 year old stadium with NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, and they decided that the Steelers & Pirates each needed new palaces. The measure was voted down but they did it anyway, 1/2 a billion dollars later (+ a new convention center with no parking and inadequate hotel space) the sports teams have their Taj Mahals, the city is broke and bonds are now junk status. |
| Your story could just as easily be right here in Charlotte, NC - word for word. Not to long ago, a city councelman told the citizens of Mecklinburg County to go ahead and leave if they didn't like the tax situation. That they could easily be replaced. Meck. County's taxes are twice as high as the surrounding counties and they just upped the tax rate by ~10%. It was going to be almost 18%. |
In other news New Mexico is growing out of control , traffic is horrible because they are building tons of new homes on our westside and there is only 3 bridges to get over to the rest of Albuquerque . You cant go 2 blocks with out seeing a cop and drivers here suck!
