My 96 Golf is no longer the freeze mobile it once was. The air blows hot, at air temp (Wichita Falls summer hot). I purchased a can of the coolant at O'Reilly parts and the gauge reads red, meaning seek pro help. The system is still pressurized. Is there anything else I can check before I spend a lot of money. Thanks. |
| It's probably gonna need more than 1 can if it's almost completely empty. Since it still has SOME positive pressure it is probably ok to keep adding gas. I'm not sure about your car exactly but most take in the 2-3 lb. range and those cans are usually 1 lb. or less. You won't get much gas into until you can get the compressor on. To be sure it really helps if you know someone with a set of manifold guages or can afford to buy a set. If it doesn't have a high enough suction pressure the low pressure switch cuts the compressor out. It won't keep the compressor clutch pulled in long enough to run until you have enough refrig. in the system to keep the pressure up high enough to make the pressure switch contacts. When you are getting closer it will start cutting in/out/in/out etc... until it accepts enough gas to keep running. It should be in the 35-45# range on the low side and high side can vary depending on ambient temp and engine rpm, air flow across the condenser etc... and cool 40-50 degree discharge air. Good luck. |
