I have a friend who works for a less than honest businessman. The BIQ (Businessman In Question) did not renew his employee insurance with a local health insurance company, but continued to take the premium out of his check every week for 2 months afterward! Now, he and his baby have been to the doctor, without coverage, and the medical bills are coming in.

What can he do? I know this can not be legal, so who does he have to contact? Any help I can pass on would be appreciated!

I'm not a lawyer, but I would call that robbery in the least.

Yes, he, his wife, and child were SUPPOSED to be covered. The issue here is: wtf did the BIQ do with the funds that were SUPPOSED to go towards his insurance?

Simular incident happened at a place I used to work.

Guy got married.

Added wife to insurance.

7 months later wife gets knocked up.

HR lost/failed to forward the insurance status changes. ( so he was never actually charged for the coverage...)

Company paid for all delivery and pre/post natal care.

Kid and wife were added to the policy at same time.

Worst thing was the sum of the bills affected the profit sharing payout for everyone there.

So he should contact the Labor Board and DA's office. What kind of trouble can the BIQ get into? My friend seems to think this wasn't a "mistake", "oversight" or "lost paperwork".

Just call the labor board already!

I don't know what type of trouble the boss can get into but who cares!?!?!?!

I knew a guy that got hurt at a job while working "under the table".  The boss wouldn't pay his medical bills so he went to the labor board and filed a workers comp claim.

Needless to say the boss got screw outa of huge $$$$.  But so what??  It was HIS fault he didn't hire people correctly.

So who cares what happens to the boss, protect yourself.

Beleive me!

This was not a
1. Mistake
2.  Oversite.

This was fraud and theft.

I am unsure if he should give the boss warning or not.  Why give him a chance to cover shit up?

1.  Bring the cops in.
2.  Bring the labor board in.
