How long does it generally take between the time when someone enlist in the national guard/reserves and when they go to basic?

If you insist and the recruiter is worth a damn then it takes about 3 days. My brother in law went to the recruiter went to MEPS the same day and called home the next to say he was going to FT Benning.

Depends.  You can go as soon as you'd like most of the time.

Or as long as a Year.

What's the backstory? You trying to substantiate someone's line of BS?

i waited like 8 months but they could have shipped me in about 1 month. I think most recruiters prefer this method because it prevents you from getting cold feet before shipping.

YOU ARE IN FOR A FUN RIDE

ENJOY!

Duh, yeah. I joined up to be a Foce Recon Airborne Special Forces Ranger SEAL, but they're not letting me leave for Basic until I turn 62.

Really.

What's the MOS on that one?  I'll ask the recruiter when I go talk to him today.  I'm looking for a Delta Force General slot, with my own humvee w/chrome rims to strut around in.

Make sure that you get the gold plated Desert Eagle option also. All the real operators use them.

The back-story is that I don't want to sit on my hands for 6 months waiting start.  I may need a couple months to remember how to run and do more than 30 push-ups at a time, but I'm also not into wasting time.

Another question: what are the chances of an 11b shipping out to Iraq? Pretty good, I assume, but my parents are freaking out, so I want to calm them down some how.  Also, if I should do well on the ASVAB, is there a "better" combat arms job that I could sign up for?  I want to find all of these things out before I go to the recruiter.

You can drill with your unit up to a full year before you go, getting paid AND having it count towards time in service.  You'll be a Rep 63.

The chances of Infantryman being shipped out, it TOTALLY up to your unit.  They've told my unit 4 times that we're shipping out, only to push it back each time.
First it was last summer they wanted us, but we were still training on our Bradley's.
Then, it was December, out LT Col said no.
Then it was June 1st, with the 1st ID, then we found out they're doing Port Security in Kuwait for a year, so our LT Col said hell no.
Now, its Sept. 1st.

So, with the occurrences we've had, I put my State Trooper app. in the other day for this upcoming cycle.

unsolicited advice: Probably a good idea to keep that kind of information to yourself. All due respect.
