I have been awakened by my roomate twice in the past two weeks due to the fact that my alarm was blaring for over 20min. and I did not wake up. He said that the second time he went down in the basement and could hear my alarm clear as day (alarm is on the 2nd floor). I have always known that I am a deep sleeper, but this is getting rediculous. I hope I dont start missing work because of it, as my alarm only goes off for about two hours before it calls it quits for the day. Update: I actually slept right through my alarm today without hearing it. I hope the current trend does not continue. |

I used to be like that. Would never hear the alarm at full blast, and if I did I would reach over and shut it off in my sleep - sometimes walking clear across the room (apparently in my sleep as I would never remember it later). It got so bad I bid on a swing-shift job just so I wouldn't worry about being late for work. When I had to work days I left the window open and slept just under a sheet so I would get cold in the morning and wake up. I tried all the tricks people told me about - putting the alarm in a washtub so it would make more noise, putting it in another room where I could still hear it, getting a clock radio and turning the volume up full blast. I don't know what happened, but finally I started hearing the alarm and now it doesn't take much of an alarm at all to wake me. NMSight |
It's just your unique chemistry. There's nothing you can do about it. My ex could sleep through a nuclear war. She couldn't help it. |

How much sleep are you getting? I find if I'm generally getting enough sleep then I'm a fairly normal sleeper. If I've been getting 3-4 hours or less a night for more than 4 days it takes quite a bit to wake me up. Usually by the 6th or 7th day of doing that I can't pull myself out of bed at all. |
I get 7-8 hours a night. I do realize that I need more than the average person though so that is about my minimum while still being able to carry on. |

I have had similar issues, but not quite as bad. For me it comes down to getting enought sleep. I turn my alarm off in my sleep or near-sleep state, and don't remember it. Most of the time I'm just a zombee and can't drag myself out of bed. I'm not a morning person. I'd be more awake in the morning if I never went to bed. I'm glad I have flexable work hours. |
