I need to tap the hive mind.... About projector TVs. I have a friend that maintains that pretty good HD projectors (that are capable of handling X-Box play as well as normal HD cable) can be had for around $1200. Is this true? What brands are good? |

Hewlett Packard mp3220 is 1024x768 XGA resolution 2000:1 contrast ratio 2000 ANS Lumens brightness 2000 hour lamp life S-video, composite and component inputs plus HDTV video up to 1080i $1599 at Mac Mall, maybe cheaper, I'm just writing this out of a catalogue I have. SVGA is 800x600 and is not true HD. It may be what they term EDTV (extended definition TV) and what you're seeing in some of the cheaper Plasmas and cheaper projectors. |
oh sorry I was thinking rear projection |

We have a BenQ 7800? or something thats HD. We got it for about 2.5k aussie or something I forget. You cant play xbox games on widescreen so you have to put it to 4:3 ratio otherwise you cut the top and bottom off the picture. The main problem IMO is that its too damn big so you gotta get used to scanning the whole giant area. I dont think its that sharp either. Its quite blurry in fact. We hooked the laptop up and it also doesnt look too sharp. We have a 105 inch screen. Its VERY sharp with HDTV but not with the xbox ETA: its in a purpose built room with light control and picture assessments were done at night with curtains closed and no lights on so it was completely dark |
on widescreen or on 4:3? it either cuts off the top and bottom or stretches it and makes it looks really weird. I tried it once and was

I'm very happy with my front-projection system. Down-sides are that you must be able to control the light and bulbs have to be replaced every 3,000 hours and cost about $400, which is about every year-and-a-half for me - the picture quality is worth it. The projector with one bulb costs about $2,200. The screen costs about $400. That gives me about a year and a half of very high-quality viewing. Add two more bulbs and you’re up to about five years of high-quality viewing for about $3,400, which is cheaper than other quality systems. I figure after five years, it's time for some new technology. Mine gives me a better or as good a picture as any other system I've seen, including direct-view, plasma, rear-projection, and LCD. Coupled with my sound system, it is fantastic and it is a mid-range priced/quality system: - Denon DVD-1600 progressive-scan DVD (does DVD-A, also) - NEC LT240K DLP projector (720p/1080i - XGA - 1024x768 up to 1600x1200) - Dish Network 811 HD Satellite receiver - Onkyo TX DS-595 receiver (DTS/5.1) - Denon/Infinity speakers/sub-woofer - DA-Lite 73" 16x9 HD high-gain screen (64"x36") www.lhup.edu/dfisher/ht01.jpg www.lhup.edu/dfisher/ht02.jpg |
